Another automation design flaw: tooltips are too short
Labeling in this program is a mess. Like when you hover over an automation envelope in order to bring up the tooltip which shows you the value at a particular point - it seems the tooltips have a maximum character length, which means that if the parameter name is too long then it will be truncated along with the value you need to see. The only way you can find out the value is if you position the play head at that point, which makes the value display in the little box to the left of the lane. This isn't an issue when you're automating a simple mix parameter like volume or pan, but as soon as you start automating plugin or synth parameters, then the tooltip has to display the name of the plug followed by the name of the parameter. Why did they limit the length of tooltips like this, knowing fine well that some parameter names would exceed it? SMH

Not sure I'm seeing that sharke. Here's a very quick example: That's longest named parameter I can find on Z3TA. Is this what you mean or have I, in time-honoured style, missed the point.

Well that's weird. Last night, my automation tooltips were showing things like "Reaktor5: EnFo..Cutoff.." I open the project this morning, and the tooltips are displaying in full like yours. Could this be a Windows related thing, in that Tooltips are a system wide setting and something was happening on my computer last night which made all of them shorter? It's not the first time I've been frustrated by shortened Tooltips in automation lanes. Also, what's the deal with automation parameter units in Sonar? How come they don't always seem right? For instance, last night the parameter I mentioned above was showing units of 0 - 200 in the automation lane. This morning, it's showing 0 - 100%. And what's with the number in the box with the parameter slider (to the immediate left of the automation lane)? The manual says that "The slider position represents the current value of the envelope" - which it does, but the number in the corner of the box rarely represents the actual value of the envelope. For instance, in the lane I'm working in now, that value is stuck on 80. It doesn't matter if I move the slider up or down, or what the current value of the envelope is. It stays at 80. Is this a bug, or am I misunderstanding what this value is supposed to represent?

OKAY....so just minutes after posting that my automation value tooltips were back to normal size, I go back into X2 to find that once again, they're shortened. I took a screen shot this time: So as an experiment, I closed Sonar and opened the project again. Lo and behold, the tooltips are displaying correctly. So this is something that happens over time when Sonar has been open for a while (or perhaps as a result of me doing something else on the desktop? This morning I've viewed a couple of PDF's and had a browser open). Weird.

This is perhaps another example of quite a lot of of graphic related weirdness with the entire X series

Related to zoom level perhaps?

No, the zoom level doesn't appear to affect the length of Tooltips.

I thought tool tips were a max of 30 characters (including first space/last space) but not % values. its a windows things. could be wrong.
