Man!
Everything sounds great! I especially like the bass line and the funky guitars.

The solo was HUGE! Killer the way you came in at the end of the horn section.

I am glad you deciphered my archaic riddle there. Sometimes I am here but my brain isn't. Listening back to this now and I think I can honestly say... I hate you. You manage to do everything so well. You are also one of the few people I have heard actually pull off midi drums in a convincing way. Midi drums are just pure torture for me, I am never satisfied with the outcome. Your stuff gives me something to aspire to.

Thanks Ed,
Midi drums...do you use midi files from the various programs such as EZ, Addictive, etc.?
That's what I use...of course I do tons of hand edits to get them to do exactly what I want,
but compared to the way one used to have to program drums, I'm not complaining.

Wow! I am dancing in my studio. This mix has that tight low end that someone like me aspires to achieving.

Sounds great. I found it a bit bassy but otherwise the mix seemed pretty tight.

Cool song.

Cheers
Shad

Thanks Shad.

Another great song for the record books. The whole song just sucks you right into it. Have a very live preformance sound to it and the vocals/lyrics are right on the money. Very, very nice mix to this, as well. Great piece, great job on the mix. John

Thanks for the nice comments John.

This be tight little cooker.

Nice all around song and production. It sounds more real than real. Hard to pull that off.

Very reminiscent of rock and roll in Michigan in the 60s, with mixture of Motown and Saginaw rock. It evokes a lot of memories.

Nice mix on the vocals. Nice guitar, also in keeping with the vibe, it fits the tune very well.

Nice retro tune, thanks for sharing this. A feel-good tune for sure.

Roger,

Started listen to you list of stuff (I had before but it's been awhile). Very nice in all genres. Damn fine stuff, all of it! Impressive work and an obvious good ear.

I will be checking out more of them as time permits. You got a great repertoire!

Thanks Daryl,
I'm trying to submit to multiple genres...the shotgun approach.
I even pitched that one of yours I helped you on...didn't get any bites though.

Yeah, I start out with midi clips but they never seem to fit what I am after. Then again I dont have a ton of them either. Alot of the EZ clips just sound off to me also. I think part of the problem is I played with real drummers for so long the midi just always sounds weird. That and, I am not a drummer. Another thing that throws me is if I change kit sounds the playing seems different also. It's just a frustrating situation all around for me but I think I am going to start using a real drummer mixed with a little drumagog. I would be happy to achieve the level you do but it just seems so unattainable at this point. You definitely have a knack for it.

I was curious, do you start with drums first, or a simple guitar groove to put the drums to?

Hey Ed,
After I get a tempo that feels right to me I usually just start with a basic drum groove,
close to what I want and lay scratch guitar parts.
Then it's just a process of building as I go, refining and tweaking till I'm satisfied, which is like, never.

Hi Roger,

Thanks for reminding me to take a listen. Nothing you need worry about at all on the horn front. Everything else seemed on the case too. Great job.
Couple of absolutely minute thoughts - the horn solo sounds ever so slightly like a series of licks that you might expect to have just a little more phrasing connection to each other but it does work fine as is and I really don't think you need change it. The other thing is when you get a sustained notes in the horns they just sound a little uncannily even in pitch and dynamic particularly on the bottom part. I don't know if you are looping a sample for those notes, I suspect not - they are just very, very straight note samples! Perhaps that is how the top guys and girls play! I'm just used to a bit more wavering...

Hope to back on the forum more regularly before too long.

Yeah, just like that: perfect. Fantastic funk!

It would be amazing to have the ToP horn section on this, with a big bodacious bari sax, but, it still sounds great as is.

Hi Roger,

I've listened to this a few times. Really fantastic.

The only real weakness IMO is the midi horns. What you've done isn't bad at all. It works and it does it's part... but it ain't the real thing... If you had real horns on this, it'd be begging for airplay...

Great job as always,

Peace,

Ian

Cool!...Thanks Martin.
It's nice to have a real sax man comment.
I was thinkin'...If you see this, maybe you'd like to try some real sax in the solo break?
I realize you may be busy, but it sounds interesting to you, drop me a line.

Thanks Ian,
This was put together for film/TV/library usage...for that I'm pretty sure the horns are fine.

Hey Upright,
Thanks for the kind words.
Please don't feel stupid...they are real horns...they are samples that are triggered via midi.

So while I didn't record a live horn section, it's the next best thing.
