Another from Colleen (House of the Rising Sun)

Here is a cover Colleen did for her CD. She is on lead fiddle, my friend, Rick is on piano and I'm doing the harmony fiddles and the rest of the junk.

This was just excellent. It's a great tune and your interpretation made it great justice. Love it!

Sadly very reduced studio equipment as it is... ASUS G750J, 8 gb RAM, Win8, Roland Quad Capture.

This Sounds really great.  The fiddle is performed very well.  the Phrasing on the fiddle is outstanding - lots of emotion there.  Great fiddle harmonies too.  The lead guitar part is really nice - I love the wah.  And the guitar tone is excellent as usual.  Cool ending.

    Very emotional.

For me I would have tried to make that violin sound more like it was playing in a deserted foggy street as that is the image that is nearly there.  Only my feelings.  The playing is superb.

Wonderfully dark and seedy, and dripping with that muggy Southern heat. This gave me chills, and I think this is one of very few covers that I like better than the original.

    Scotty,

Very nice! Love the fiddle and your guitar solo is outstanding, as well.

Nice mandolin harmonies at the end, too.

Yeah, she's certainly good--tons of emotional and spot-on playing.

I love it when your harmonies come in.  And the guitar solo/s blew me away.  You could do more of that and I wouldn't complain at all!  :-)

Rick can sure tickle those ivories too.  Wow.  A superb collab from 3 wonderful musicians! Great mix too.

DANG!  I was thinking about doing and instrumental of this.  Oh well you snooze you loose.

Very nice as expected.  Nice arrangment of a song that has been around for probably over 100 years in various incarnations.  Ironically, the most popular version (The Animals) was probably the worst arrangment ever, so of course the masses liked that best.

Cool arrangment, love the harmonies of course.

This also a great tune to rock on, but I like this laid back groove.

A good looking womon who can play music - what more could you ask for?

This is really great. She really is a talent! I like it so much better played on a fiddle than an organ. If I recall correctly, I believe I saw (on TV) Eric Burden play the fiddle to the Stones Paint it Black at Monterey Pop Festival with the Animals. It was quite impressive. He should have done this one as well on Fiddle.

    Daryl,
Thanks for checking it out. It is indeed laid back....I almost fell asleep during my parts. LOL

    Tap,
Yes indeed, she has talent. Unfortunately, (as you can hear) she doesn't improvise. She never strayed from the melody. Oh well, what can one expect from a beginner?

I think she done, did, dang good Scott!! I also liked yer piano playing and those blistering, guitar solo harmonies, as well. A very cool 'take' on a classic! Almost makes me want to yell, "Freebird"..but, I won't do that!! :)

Anyway I like the way you guys and gals played in this tune , good one !

OMG... I danced my first plain (slow) on this one, and yes Scotty... with a girl. I can only thank you and your friends for stirring that up again. I had forgotten. Excellently well done y'all. Bravo!

Out of curiousity, can you give me some details on the violins used and how you recorded them?

    Larry,
"Yell Freebird"? Nope...you'd better not.  My good friend, Rickety C. was on the pyanner for that one, but I'll pass along your comments. Glad you liked the guitar solo. I thought it needed something to wake it up a little.

    Radio,
So glad you liked it. Thanks for coming back to listen.

Frijid Pink meets It's a Beautiful Day!

    Cool tune, well done recording.

    Things I liked about it.

    It sounded "live"
    The Floyd Cramer-ish piano parts
Loved the envelope on the fiddle... the way the player got into the note and got out of it.
