Another garden question:solved by Steve. :)
Actually, this is in the woods...in the new wildflower area, actually. Anyone know what it is? It smells good, almost like mint, but not exactly. The picture may not be good enough, but I'm guessing someone here will know.

Well, I'll be...how'd you do that? I think you're right, as everything written about it lines up with what's in the woods. Thank you! But how DID you do that? Now I just want to find out if it can be used for tea. (I'm amused that people BUY this thing. It's growing like a weed in the rocks here! lol)

Well, good for you, Steve! :) I believe it's time to invent another new word. 'Coffeehouse'--to find out something you need to know. Oftentimes, more productive than googling something. :)

Have you found any of this growing in the garden? I hear it makes a decent tea as well.

You and your herbs, Herb. No, but I did find evidence of some critters eating the beans, spinach and squash leaves. grrr...I should have known this would be an uphill battle to plant in the middle of a forest. And here's a new one...I've got cardboard underneath the mulch and now something is burrowing under it and lifting it up. Not eating the strawberry plants right beside it, but digging everything up. What would that be?

Moles, voles, chipmunks, I use BT on my garden for the worms and caterpillars. The rest of the bugs can have at it. I'm not seeing much bug damage. BT is non toxic to everything else, but it kills the worms rather quickly. My chickens wander in there and pick at the leaves. They don't eat much, and hopefully they are in there for the "meat" they find.

That's nothin' It's too dark out now but I'll take a picture tomorrow that will blow you away. ;) The wife's been after me to cut it down or spray it with round-up. I want to leave it there until my buddy comes out to visit in a couple weeks. He'll crap his pants when he's sees it. I can't stop it from growing ... it's everywhere out here in the wild.

What would that be? It could be baby Werewolves. I'd plant some garlic next year to ward them off! Oh wait ... that's Vampyre's. It may work on them too ... they're closely related.

As promised ... Photo 1: To show it grows wild everywhere ... this is around the electric pole across the street in my neighbors field. It's all up and down the road in the ditch. That pic was taken from 200 feet away so it's kind of hard to see. Photo 2: This is in my back yard in my dirt pile. The wife noticed it the other day and has been on me to get rid of it so it doesn't keep spreading. It grows like thistle, dandelion, etc etc out here. It'll be sprayed soon before it goes to seed and spreads. I have to spray the whole pile actually, there's tons of thistle in there. I hate to though because we critters living in there. Probably have the sheriff knocking on my door tomorrow. I'm kind of wondering about my neighbor, there were helicopters hovering right over their house today, I mean at like 300 ~ 350 feet. They are weird ... I could see them having a meth lab in their. Doh! At least they are far enough away that if it blows up I won't get hurt from the blast. :)

All I know is that everywhere I've ever lived (pick a state that touches the Pacific Ocean), if you wanted to get those plants out of there without having to do it yourself, you could easily call law-enforcement and tell them that you have a bunch of plants that look illegal growing out back - could they come and check it for you. That way they'll come and confisicate them, roots and all, and you won't have to waste time or money getting rid of them. Of course, you're on your on for the thistles - hehe...

Ive got kind of a plant dilemma ,now I'm kinda stuck on what to do..........I just transplanted part of a fig tree, Bub I wish they grew like the stuff you have there...... this fig tree is starting to whither. I planted it about 12"deep and added some starter plant food. Its only a shoot about 24" high. I cut it from the bottom and it looks like it has some very small roots on it but mostly its from a shoot that came off the bottom. Should I trim the stem back some? I have been watering it every day but its not looking to well right now.Next week its supposed to get hot here. I am concerned that it might not make it:(

craigb ... they'll come and confisicate them, roots and all, and you won't have to waste time or money getting rid of them. I think they'd get tired of coming out. :) They're annual plants and I always either cut them down or spray them before they go to seed, but the problem is the birds eat the seeds from plants elsewhere and drop them in random places so it's a never ending cycle. We don't have any trees in our back pasture so usually it grows along the fence line because the birds sit on the fence and drop the seeds. I have to cut down 5 ~ 6 Mulberry trees along the fence line every year because of the same thing. If you ever want a fast growing tree ... those are it. You're not supposed to have them near your house though because the birds eat the berry's and it turns their droppings in to this nasty purple-ish goop that's hard to get off your car, windshield, house windows, etc. :)

I am concerned that it might not make it:( This is a bad time of year to plant or transplant a tree. You're supposed to do it in Spring or Fall IIRC. When I plant trees I always cover the bottom of the hole with gypsum and water it down really good. Then mix gypsum and light fertilizer in the dirt and plant the tree in it. The gypsum loosens the soil so the roots can grow easily and adds calcium. It sounds like you planted it a little deep maybe. We have a Silver Maple growing in the landscaping rock in front of our house. It's grown 3 feet so far this year. I have no idea how it got there? Birds I guess. It's a perfect little sampling and I'm waiting for fall to move it in to the yard.

This thread is a perfect example of why I've moved indoors. Nothing more depressing than doing all that work just to find someone either stole it, ratted you out or the damn police raided your patch. When we will finally be free of this ridiculous demonization? I still can't get over how silly it is that human beings would attack and campaign so vehemently for the eradication of a beautiful and very useful(in many varied ways) plant... it is a plant after all. It's not a mistake it's here nor are it's characteristics and uses a mistake. The whole idea of attacking and demonizing pot would be hilarious if it didn't piss me off so much.
