Another government institution astounds me with their competence and efficiency

So I'm suing someone and the court date was set for today 6pm. I show up as requested and sit for an hour for the roll call. My name isn't called so I wait 30 mins in line to talk to the clerk, who informs me that the other party was accidentally given the wrong time 9:30am. They couldn't tell me if he showed up or not. Now it's adjourned until the end of January. Why is it, whenever I have anything to do with a government institution, it's a frustrating train wreck from start to finish?

    Are you saying that the courts are a government institution? These things are designed for lawyers and run by clerks under the control of the whim of judges, they are completely beyond the realm of any form of democratic control.
