Hi Mark , hey I was listening to this sample you posted . I forgot to ask you after you said you compressed the file before you mixed it . Was it my drum track that was compressed and did you add more reverb to the drum track ? I should had said something earlier , it sort sounds like theres too much reverb added to the drum track . Maybe its my ears right now after just waking up from a three hour afternoon nap . James

No - I didn't add any reverb to this James - just compressed very slightly.

Well, James, if this is what you can do with the limited gear you have, then just imagine what you will accomplish once you get it sorted. This was great to listen to. My first thought was "Right on". There are a few places which, I think with time you will also see, needed a bit more fill. The sound and beat suddenly dumped. I did hear compression pumping on the kit which sounded like it came from the source. You might try relaxing some settings a bit and see how that sounds in future projects. Cool stuff man.

I did hear compression pumping on the kit which sounded like it came from the source. You might try relaxing some settings a bit and see how that sounds in future projects. Cool stuff man. Thanks Shad , when I purchased that $499.00 electric kit I looked at the kick pedal wondering is that pedal wold even work well enough for me . The first three days working with it I was thinking no this has to go , I need to replace it ASP ! I can work with it but its not easy with no tension adjustment in this kick pedal . Its almost impossible to get the same beats out of this kick pedal as you can with a good standard kick pedal so it is what it and and its all I have to work with for the next two months . I plan on in June buying a replacement for around another $300.00 , new Kick pad and the purchase of a decent DW kick pedal within my price range . My fills are not what they used to me back with I was playing on a good set of drums but with steady weekly practice I should be back to where I was in six months or so . You can't expect to play like you did after stopping totally for over 13 years , it takes time to get back into drumming like I was before . I'm also not as young and as healthy as I was back then either , this recent heart atack believe or not took a big hit on my energy level when playing . I can ony play like this for 30 minutes at at time and then I start wearing down to the point where I need to stop playing and rest . Back when I was playing full time my body weight was 180 lbs , I'm now at 230 lbs . I need to start losing weight too if I plan on playing full time again . Anyway thanks , Mark did a great job creating this song and I thank him for letting me add drums to his song it was fun for me . James

I agree that more fills are n order. James seemed to add rests where fills could go. Some of the rests are good and effective. I could be all wrong though. I'll go oil my kick pedal and shut up.

LOL I agree my fills are not what they used to be back in 1998 , man seems like a long time ago doesn't it but I'm sure over time this year I will fill in the missing blanks and start playing as good as I did way back then . If you like my drumming so much just wait till you here me play my new guitar , now thats going to be COOL ! Thanks Again Buddy - James

keep at it james, you have all the tools to be a great drummer, when i say tools i dont mean the drum kit either,i mean talent.skill.the will. my constructive critisism would be to try using a click track when practicing and when recording, and turn up the volume loud on it. im not sure you used a click track when doing this,am i right? if you didnt then im impressed,i couldnt have done this without a click track. velocity is everything james.remember this ryme; "hitting cymbals louder than kicks, pounds right through a mix" i understand your kit might not be the best but dont use that as a crutch.you have good skillz as as a drummer i can hear it.just dont under estimate yourself and dont make exscuses, never do a song and say to yourself "well the kit stinks so,its good enough" strive for perfection and you will achieve it. all in all this came out good,a little tweaking and it would have been mind blowing. like i said, reach for the stars and expect greatness, settle for no less. good job. Thanks Charlie for the advice , I did all that when I took drum lessons from a good drum teacher . I have a $900.00 Yamaha QY300 sequencer to pratice with , all I have to do is plug it into the brain of this drum kit and work on getting my drum skills back again . What I added to this Marks song doesn't song bad , its not as good as I wanted it to be in a few small places but for the most part I think I did a good job playing after 14 years of not playing ! Go throw your guitar in your closet and don't play it for 14 years then pull it out again and see if you can play as good as you did 14 years ago . You can't expect to be as good as you were when you haven't played for that period of time , anyone who thinks they can is NUTS ! Sorry Mark , I wasn't expecting your posted thread to end up like my other posted threads where everyone is now moving into your thread and making it seem like I didn't do a good job adding drums to your music . Charlie I know you mean well but your putting me down in a nice way ! This is a fact the same people who keep trashing do not want me getting any rewards for anything I do or play . I really think the same people are doing their very best to put me down by trashing me , telling me I suck at playing and anything else they can think of to run me off or make me feel bad . Hey Mark please remove this track , I don't want you to get pounded by all of this crap ! I will from now on create my own music and when I buy that replacement kick pedal and kick pad I will prove to them its not just my playing thats throwing me off time when doinging fills . Most of it has to do with the kick pedal and YES I am blaming the pedal that came with this kit GO LOOK AT IT , its junk to work with !

James, it is not bad. It does not need to be removed. Just keep working at it. You get will there.

James - I would agree with Shad - no need to remove this. I think you did a good job - could it be improved - maybe, but can't we all improve? Take the criticism in stride - just learn from it - and don't engage anyone. From what I have read everyone here is offering their criticism on a positive basis - take it that way. You did a good job - and again thanks.

james,i apologize, i wish you luck, like i said,i think your a good drummer,i was just saying to reach for the stars and expect to be the best you can. im not sure how you could take it any other way. with that said james,i will not be posting on any of your future threads anymore.im afraid your a little touchy when it comes to constructive critisism and i almost feel as if i put a lot of work in to listening to your song, then writting out a nice review and instead im yelled at ?? i think ive had enough now. i ment no harm in my previous post. and frankly after reading it again,im having trouble finding where you would either. at any rate,i wish you the best. best of luck in the future. Great rockin cover Mark. The drums sounded pretty good on this, but could benefit from a few fills. Overall i enjoyed it though.

I tend to agree with Shad and Mark -- James. No need to ask Mark to remove this take on this song. You did a good job on the drums! We all can use input and coaching on what we might do to make something good be even better (I can certainly use all the help I can get). Mark had to walk me through this number. I was getting the timing on the vocals all wrong. Thanks for your patience Mark and thanks again for including me on this number.

Thanks Freddy , after not playing for 13 year or more I wasn't expecting to be perfect in my playing . The other day I pulled out some of my drum books from way back when I took lessons over twenty years ago and started working on playing drum rock patterns and linear drum rock playing . Since I can read drum music its cool working with some of those books again and refreshing my mind again so I can play like I use to play back in the 90's . Thanks for the comments , maybe I will replay this over again and ask Mark to update it for me . Cheers - James

Thanks John its great to be playing again , practice and practice to get back into shape again thats where I'm at now . Hopefully by the end of this year I will be a good player again and will be able to buy that Rolands drum kit I really wanted to buy . I had the money last friday to buy that electronic kit but bought my nice guitar, amp and case instead . As the old saying goes when you haven't won the lottery your not going to buy out the music store in one day ! LOL
