Another song
There were requests on the last song I posted, to hear me actually play the instuments. So I decided to put something together for your listening enjoyment. I'm primarily a guitarist by trade but play a bit of keyboards from time to time. I played the electric piano and bass on this one. The drums are soft synths. The bells are midi driven from the keyboard and generated through the roland soft synths. I'm not really into this style of music but I thought something on the cooler side might be appropriate for this time of year. https://soundcloud.com/sir-pistolpete/chill-5

Very chill. Enjoyable to listen too. Would work well in a comedy spy film or movie like Oceans 11 (12/13).

It's too robotic sounding for this style (turn off quantize and learn to play). You also need to work on the production values. It's very thin sounding and your patch selections sound like they came from the 80's. Musically it's a decent jazz segment. Needs more parts and movement though. Hope this helps.

Pete, you have been proven to be either a complete joke (if this is indeed the best you can do), or the biggest jerk on this forum (more likely, you know your stuff but you enjoy just screwing around with us). Either way, congratulations.

So what did you play here again Pete? After all these years you are still totally indifferent to the truth. Still giving dishonest reviews and now trying to pass off a MIDI file as something that you played. I'm not even going to bother listening to anything else you post until you have something up that is the normal music you keep talking about, with you playing the instrument you claim to play. Even then I'm going to find it hard to believe it's really you. My honest review is I liked Danny's better.

i would have to say...its good. the bass notes sound the same velocity's on every note which shows consistancy, thats a very good quality to have. the progressions are near perfect, almost to the point i thought it was a looped instruments. if this is really you playing everything here(minus the drum machine/i can understand that) then, this is really good. pete,i think you would fair better though by using session drummer(if you have sonar producer) it would sound better than the roland, you'd have more control. look in my signiture, theres a tutorial on creating drum parts in the Piano Roll View. the groove synth is a really good machine for somethings but replicating drums to sound as near perfect as possible, you need better sir pete. I like it. if your not pulling my chain, this is all you,no loops....im impressed. has the arrangments along the lines of a score for a video game.(thats not an insult either) thats a compliment. hopefully now that you have some positive feedback you can share that a little more with others. im not saying change who you are, just construct your comments a little wiser thats all. (by the way thats only a suggestion) keep up the good work.

ohgrant ... trying to pass off a MIDI file as something that you played. When I was a kid, I had a Casio keyboard. There was a 'song' function on it. You'd select 'Jazz', hit a note, and it would fill in the drums, bass, keys, everything .... in a 'jazzish' style like this. There was a 'Fill' button and even an 'End' button so you could wrap the song up. Sometimes if you didn't hit the buttons just right, it would hiccup ... just like at around 1:40. You couldn't play melodies along with it ... just like this ... it's all chord work. It sounds like one of those old Casio's to me, especially the cymbals. My apologies pete if you actually did put a lot of work in to this. If you did do this yourself, it's good for what it is, if you did use the Casio ... ha ha. Funny.

So who is going to be the first to lay down their guns? When we all act like this, we are just as bad as the person we are bashing on. I think if Tweedguy from the Harpsichord thread saw this one as well as that one, he sure would get the idea that we are all a bunch a mean spirited arseholes. Seriously gentlemen, we are better than this.

I'm not judging anyone. I'm not even who I seem to be. Cakewalk trapped me in an alternate identity when I reinstalled my software and needed a password reset. I've been trapped in here for a week! I hope help comes soon, but I think the mothership has turned into a ghost ship. It has been great showing up as a newb. Everyone if friendly and wants to set a good example. It brought a tear to my eye. I do think that the songs forum is a great place for those that want to share their opinions frequently.

This song needs MUCH much more Harpsichord? (I think most people know that was tounge pretty far in cheek because another member, and I do mean "member?" was posting endlessly about non-song related Bravo Serra? And for what ever reason, it just got on my last nerve... So I started a series of nonsensical posts about BS, and kept commenting on them? And this morning, I saw that his new Bravo Serra post had been moved to the CH forum where it should have been :-) I haven't even looked at my BS harpsichord thread or the others I did. I did them only to make a point? Illustrating absurdity by being absurd... Sorry, not a jack, but didn't want to bump those other threads because they served their purpose. . . And were bogus to begin with. First? It's late? And it's me? So please keep that in mind. Second? I've always maintained that Jazz is a genera created for musicians who are overly talented and bored playing non-jazz music? With that said, this seemed like a jaunty little tune. Weird chords and all. There may have been too many notes and not enough feeling though? :-)

For a guy of his pronounced venom to get the same kind treatment of everyone else on this forum would only encourage this behavior. I am a forgiving Christian man but I am also not a sap. And TBH, this tune is derivative crap, Pete knows it is derivative crap, and he is not a noob looking for advice; rather, he just enjoys getting us spun up.

Definitely sounds like a bunch of stock jazz MIDI files dragged in from somewhere else. I'm prepared to admit I'm wrong, but that's what it sounds like.... Mix wise, what's going on with that wide stereo bass?

Of course he's just havin a laugh. I think it's funny. Nobody is playing anything on that at all, he just pressed the play button. Sarcasm at it's subtle best. Well done pistolpete, it made me laugh. I also agree that it could do with a bit more harpsichord. Oh and what kind of oil do you use to keep the midifile case clean and shiny?
