Answer me this

Why, the closer you get to dying, the more you think about it?

Now of course, many will say they don't think about dying, but I don't believe you.

I think of my 90 year old great grandmother.  She must wake up everyday and wonder if this will be the last sunrise.

Jesse Q. Screed

I think people spend half their time trying to accumulate, and the other half trying to hang on.

I know, this is HEAVY, but Sharke started it all.

Who has time what with all the time spent thinking about becan, women, sports, music....not to mention trying to remember all the stuff I was s'posed to do but didn't?

In order, then, to discover the limit of deepest tones, it is necessary not only to produce very violent agitations in the air but to give these the form of simple pendular vibrations. - Hermann von Helmholtz, predicting the role of the electric bassist in 1877.

I don't think about dying so much as I think about eventually losing my faculties (what little I have left) and my independence. That's the scary part.

I'm usually closer to dying than I realize.  Or so my wife tells me.
It's going to happen to all of us at some point, so don't worry about what you can't resolve.  I worry more about NOT dying.  Once I retire, i'll only be able to afford a finite amount of cat food to live on...

In a word: yes. Start to think about just how short life is and as the song say's, "You don't miss your water 'till the well runs dry". The Buddy Guy song, 'Done Got Old' puts it well.... "I can't d the things I used to do, 'cause I'm an old man".

I have an appointment with at the heart cath lab today at 1:15, so yeah. I hope it is a transitional feeling/thought process but it's like one day you're all here and the next day you're tired and just can't keep up like you used to, it happens pretty quickly then (hopefully) there is a long glide path. I think the quickness of the change between strong and tired is what is sobering and thought provoking. There is really no way to explain it. I just hope everyone lives to experience it and then on through it. Most of us cannot afford to die twice like David Crosby or Keef so try and take care of yourself. I enjoy life pretty much, I'm just in an adjustment period. I still own a business I built but it scares me because last month I had to work it myself for over a week and I couldn't do it. My helper had hernia surgery. I will feel a LOT better when I sell this business, then I can mentally move on to the rest of my life. I have things I want to do. It's kind of like you can't let go and you can't hold on. Life gets confusing when you change, but I expect to come to terms with it soon. You'll see.

I am constantly amazed at how the certainty of my own impending, though unscheduled, death has not helped to motivate me to stop wasting whatever time I have left. When it comes to a choice of bloviating on a little-visited off-topic internet forum, or doing something really critical, like taking out the garbage, I always seem to do the diddle.

In another age, I used to attend Buddhist services where the phrase, "...like fish living in a little water, what kind of comfort and tranquility can there be? Let us practice eagerly and diligently as though extinguishing a fire upon our heads," was regularly recited.

Yet here I am. Deluded as ever with a can full of garbage.

Yes, in a sense you are a lord of your universe; most certainly you are the master of your universe, until those faces on your knee's start smiling at you.  Then maybe you should seek some advice, in the coffee house of course.

I can't say if you created all living things though, because I have never met you yet, in person that is.

"Why, the closer you get to dying, the more you think about it?"

my worse fear of dying is missing out:missing loved ones and friends etc but then if you are dead you wont be aware of what you are missing so why do I still dread the thought of nothing anymore.?

maybe because I was convinced that if I was good I would go to heaven and not miss anything.
considering I have been pretty good ,I now have to spend what`s left of my life wondering if I have been good enough to go to heaven or too naughty and go to hell or worse-stuck in limbo!!.

just another speck of dust in an elephants eye.

Death comes closer one day at a time.

And one day will be your last.

The older you get, the more natural it is I suppose to dwell on these simple facts. No doubt life-threatening injuries and diseases also tend to focus the mind.

Knowledge of one's own mortality is probably one of the biggest thing that sets Homo sapiens apart from other animals. Imagine how different life would be were there no understanding of death. The cynic in me might suggest that being in the business of promising life after death is always going to be a popular gig.

Still, as Cyril Fletcher may once have quipped when presented with a penis-shaped vegetable... "that's life".

Sheesh , All this talk about Dying

So , You want to know what it feels like to Die ?

OK ,

Write a brand spanking new Song . Then post it on the Songs Forum .
Watch your song have a life of it's own for a few weeks , or even a month or two ....
Hopefully your song may have brought some Joy or Musical Value to someones Life ....
While your song is still "Alive ", "Well"  and being listened too ...
Enjoy the adulation and comments while you can .....
Eventually your song may get old and loose a little of that New Song Smell , Shine , and Sparkle ...
In a matter of a very short time , your song will slip into The Abyss and wind up on page 7 of the songs forum .
Fear Not Grasshopper ,  You have Poured your heart and Soul into your Musical Creation and watched it Live a Full Life of it's Own ....
You have survived intact while your song has moved on
Have something to Live for ...Write a new song

all the best,
Kenny

Oh Yeah , Life is Good .
The internet is nothing more than a glorified real time cartoon we all star in.
I play a "Gibson " R 8 Les Paul Cherry Sunburst .
The Love of my Life is an American Bulldog Named Duke . I'm currently running Cakewalk By BandLab as my DAW .
