I think what people are trying to troubleshoot is whether you have explicitly selected the driver mode to be as ASIO - this is in Preferences | Driver settings. SONAR doesn't default to ASIO, so you must explicitly select that. In the screenshot you posted of X3, from the names it looked like you were in WDM mode. Now if you select ASIO as the driver mode in SONAR X3 and see *no inputs and outputs* listed when you go to the devices page then there indeed is a problem. If X2 sees the drivers in ASIO mode then X3 should also see them. There is only one change in X3 that was made to fix a similar problem where some M-Audio drivers were not showing up. It would be pretty bizarre but its not impossible that this fix has negatively impacted the detection for the MOTU drivers. If you PM me your email info I will try and troubleshoot some more things with you. Don't bother reinstalling SONAR at this point since the problem isn't an installation issue.

OK, now there are drivers available to choose from. There weren't any other drivers available in the Driver Mode for some reason. It must have been a glitch I don't know. But, my computer locked up and I rebooted it. Then, after that I can select the ASIO in the Driver Mode now. Weird. Everything seems to be cool now. Thanks everyone for the help!

Edited - because you seem to have finally gotten ASIO set as your driver mode, and as far as I can tell you are now OK, so I nuked what I had originally written. Bob Bone

@Zo - please clarify your question. Also, your input/output latency values are quite high, resulting in a 28.9 millisecond total round trip latency. Your input latency is 11.8, and output latency is 17.1 - for comparison, my input and output latency values are both 3.7 milliseconds, with a total round trip latency value reported as 7.3 milliseconds. The 'Number of Samples' values Sonar reports for you are: 522 for input, and 752 for output, while for comparison my values are both reported at 176 samples. I see your Sonar Sample Rate is 44100, and am imagining that your audio interface is also set to 44100, which is fine. Different audio interfaces implement controlling the ASIO Buffer Size differently, but whether or not it is specified as a straight buffer size (like my Presonus AudioBox 1818VSL - set to 128), or if your interface specifies it as a number of samples (sometimes a slider is used, others use a pull down showing several choices for it, that value represents the size of the ASIO Buffer. So, my question to you is, what is your ASIO Buffer Size set to for your audio interface? If it is set too low you can get dropouts/crackles, and if set too high you will add latency (as seen in your screen shot above), which can really be a pain. My suggestion to you for a reasonable starting point for your audio interface settings would be a sample rate of either 44.1 or 48, and an ASIO Buffer Size of either 128 or if expressed in Number of Samples - set it to some number just a tad under 200 (mine is 176), with a record bit-depth of 24 bits. Please note that it is recommended that you power-cycle your audio interface anytime you change those settings, in order to get a complete refresh of its associated memory. (exit Sonar prior to cycling the interface, as well, if audio interface settings were changed). Bob Bone

I was asking about the ASIO Buffer Size value that you have specified for your audio interface, meaning you have to open the UI for your audio interface to get that value for posting back here for me. Again, depending on your audio interface, it could be specified as either a straight number, like 128 as it is set on my audio interface, or it could be specified as Number of Samples (might even use a slider). Either way, I am looking for you to post that ASIO Buffer Size as it is set through the user interface for your audio interface. Thanks, Bob Bone

@Zo - Now I am quite confused. (I understand, by the way, that you are not seeing Sample RATE) I was NOT talking about 48K (Sample Rate). I am talking about ASIO BUFFER SIZE, and the values shown in the screen shot you posted earlier are NOT fine, they are quite high (over 500 samples). I don't understand your post of having a 7.1 round trip latency, when the screen shot you posted up a few posts in this thread clearly shows a total round trip latency value of 28.9 milliseconds, and values for Input number of samples of 522 and output number of samples at 752 milliseconds. So, did you change your number of samples since you posted that screen shot? If so, then please re-post the current Sonar-reported latency values, like you did with that earlier screen shot, so I can see their current values. Thanks, Bob Bone

I already posted an answer in your previous thread did you not see it? The latency not displaying is a known GUI issue and it has already been addressed for the next update. For now just open the ASIO panel to see the latency.

I've found on my computer that only one audio program will work at a time...meaning if I have Windows Media Player running, Sonar won't work....so I have to close out all audio programs and only open up one, and work with that program only. Having Sonar 1 or 2 open at the same time as X3 would cause problems on my computer. YMMV.

If you have Sonar set to use ASIO drivers with an audio interface, AND have Windows set to use your on-board sound, you can open things like Windows Media Player or play YouTube videos while Sonar is running. I believe also that if you change the default setting in Sonar, you can tell it to share with other programs (Preferences>Audio>Playback and Recording - then check the box to Share Drivers With Other Applications), and in that way can also run multiple audio applications, although I dimly seem to recall things working better if I did not run in this fashion, but instead as noted above assigned the Windows default audio device to the on-board sound chip and configured Sonar to use the audio interface. Try both of the above out and see which one works better for you. Bob Bone
