[Answered] Quantize noob question

If I have a bpm of 90, and quantize to quarter note, what happens to the occasional eighth note in my bass line? Is it a general rule to quantize to the shortest note? I would think that it would be too.......I dunno?  What's the buzz?

yes, quantize to the shortest note, as a general rule. Try it out and you'll hear what happens. You can always "undo"

    Hello.

1.The 'occasional' eighth note in your bass line will be quantized to the nearest quarter note
dependent on whether you are early or late.(in Sonar, fine tune this in the strength and window parameters
    of the quantize dialog.)

    2.Yes.
I would further suggest that you use the shortest note value that applies to the feel
you are trying to achieve.(e.g. if you swing a lot you will end up quantizing to the nearest triplet.)

3.This is a Very 'buzzy' place...
I am sure someone else will chime in with helpful info.

    Good luck!

What is already here answered my question. That is what I expected would happen. And I keep forgetting about immediate undo to try stuff. By the time I am ready and remember I have to undo, I actually end up in the history....

And I use Undo recording a ton!

FWIW, playing with the Strength, Swing and Window values can't be overstated when it comes to quantizing.   Unless of course you are going from a 100% rigid structure.    More info here:
