[Answered] What is "Shared DXi"? Pentagon I Question

I was just playing with synths and I have "Shared DXi" folder under the VST2 that only contains "Pentagon I"... this crashes the audio engine immediately. Pentagon I is also listed a second time under "Direct X" and runs fine.

I remember someone long ago saying something like they didn't have a "Shared DXi" folder... is this something I carried forward from SONAR7?

I cannot speak to X3 but "Shared DXi" has been a folder at least through X2a. It is where the DXi synths and V-Vocal are installed. Not sure why this would be listed in a VST2 plug-in area.

I think this is an artifact I carried forward from 7 Pro. When I first bought this machine, I got a card in the mail (that was very good timing) for X1. Before I did that upgrade, I installed 7 Pro first, and have been carrying obsolete plugs forward for no reason. I need to clean up my plug-ins...

Hey Michael,

Direct X is an audio protocol developed by Microsoft.  DXi is an soft synth instrument much like VSTi (protocol from Steinberg).  Pentagon I being a DXi(nstrument) can also work as a DX effect.  That is why you see it in two places.  Pentagon I has vocoder capabilities.  A Voice Modulator allows you to control Pentagon I sound with your voice or any external audio source.  If Pentagon I is causing a crash, try giving it Administrative privileges ("run as administrator") if you are running Windows 8.  I am not sure about running it under Win7 since I do not have that OS.

As for the shared folder, it is not a "carry over" so to speak.  If you have only X3 installed, you will see the same folder since X3 does include some of the legacy DX plugins.

If the change to privilege level does not change Pentagon's behavior, check back in for another solution.

Kind regards,
