Antivirus Question

I have a dual boot sys (XP with Sonar 8.5.3PE & Vista Ultimate with X1 on seperate drives). I already have AVG on my XP....do I also need an Antivirus for Vista?

I also noticed that my Vista drive shows there's only 2.25GB of RAM (the machine does have 4GB installed) and I understand that the OS uses some. Is Vista actual using 1.75GB of RAM? I haven't "tweaked" Vista (like I did XP) to optimize it....should I?

First, you need an antivirus program for each OS.  I use and recommend the free Microsoft Security Essentials to my clients (and all are using it).  I have a similar setup with Vista 32 bit one one hard drive and Win 7 64 bit on a separate hard drive and a dual boot setup.

In reference to the memory, if you have a 32 bit OS you will see something less than 4GB of RAM - how much less depends on your hardware.  Generally it's in the 3 to 3.5GB range.  Same way with a Win 7 32 bit OS system.

Windows handles the memory and there is no need to "tweak", and tweaking can even be detremental to the system operation.

    Hi fireberd,
Thanks for the info....cleared up those questions I had. Glad to hear about Microsoft Security Essentials (I have it on my laptop) as I wasn't sure how good the free AVG is.
The only thing I added recently to my hardware profile is a 1 GB NVidia video card (I have dual monitors now....very cool). I took out my Gadget Labs sound card as well. In your opinion, does my hardware justify the use of 1.75GB of RAM?

How's the EZ Drummer software working out? If you're using them, the expansion packs are still on sale for $39 here: http://www.sweetwater.com/c715--Virtual_Instruments_Drum_and_Rhythm
I got the Nashville & DFH packs (still to be installed on X1)

    Thanks Again!!!

I don't know about the 1.75GB of RAM used.  That is a lot, but not being familiar with the hardware or the complete hardware configuration I can't really say or even make a guess.

I have the EZ Drummer but haven't done anything with it.  Too many irons in the fire and when I've done any recording I've went back to the "old faithful" Alesis SR16.

I think the 2.25GB of RAM displayed may have something to do with not having all the updates for Vista (including Service Pack 2). I did all the updates last evening and now it shows 4GB of RAM, but this is just the total amount in the sys.
I read that graphic cards use up a lot of internal RAM....(of note) it seems my Vista is a bit slower than my XP, but then again I haven't been in XP since I installed the new 1GB GFX card.

If you haven't checked out Panup's mods for X1 yet, go & take a look in the X1 Producer forum. I installed the mods yesterday and what a difference it made!! He's done a really good job with that.

Take care & thanks for the help!!

I think AVG is the best software in the Windows XP. AVG Anti-Virus is trusted antivirus protection for Windows. It protection against viruses and spyware and It's secure internet surfing and searching.

The MAC ID will be compared with the records of stolen laptop details in the database. If a match is found the user will be intimated regarding the same. A benefit policy wizard helps you enter your company's benefit policies.
