Any ARC2 users out there ...?
Any ARC2 users there who can help a total IDIOT in set up. Just got ARC2, and its the first time I've used a mic for ANYTHING so be gentle with me ;-) Says in the set up that "Any direct monitoring on the audio interface mixer should be turned OFF. To confirm this, simply check that no microphone signal at all is going out to the speakers." --- by this I presume that if I speak into the mic I shouldn't hear myself through my monitors? Using a Focusrite Saffire Pro 24. Its no doubt dead easy, but I can't seem to set it so that I can hear the sounds ARC2 sends out, but not my own voice ... so there must be some echo/feedback which is obviously not what's required ...

I think by "direct monitoring" they mean monitoring the mic input directly throught the output of your interface because it could induce a feedback loop. My interface (Tascam US-1800) has a mix control knob to blend monitoring of the inputs to the interface with the output from you DAW to my monitors. I don't know if the Saffire Pro 24 can do this. There a lots of users with ARC2 on this forum who may be able to give you a better answer. Cheers, Alex

It sounds like you have not set up your audio output within the ARC setup properly. Just double check that your AI (audio interface) is selected with the proper output as well as the input for the mic. Make sure, in your AI's mixer, that your mic's output is muted so you don't get feedback.

First off, don't have any other programs running in the background. Its best to boot your computer and run the Arc System Measurement software before you open and run and other programs. When you run the Arc System Measurement software it walks you through the step. On step 2 of 5 it give you a choice of audio card, L & R outputs and an input the microphone is plugged into. After this it gives you a page with a test tone where you set the input level so it matches the range in the software. Nest you run and take measurements and save your measurement as an Arc2 preset. Look at Youtube, there have to be a bunch of videos on Arc setup. The setup for Arc 1 and Arc 2 seem the same if not identical so a video on either should work fine. Kevin

One other note, the mic that comes with the software is a condenser mic. It needs phantom power to work. Plug in the mic and turn on your phantom power. Always turn off the phantom power and wait 30 seconds or more before unplugging a condenser mic. Kevin

In the Saffire Mix Control software click on "Routing Preset" and select "DAW Tracking". Follow the directions of the ARC program to set your levels, then do your measurements.

Thanks - this is what I think is wrong. I don't seem to be able to mute the mic output, so its recording ok, but also sending out sound to the output at the same time giving feedback. I know it sounds daft, but I should be able to record sounds into the mic without hearing it back through the monitors right? I just don't get why it seems so difficult to achieve that ... I have my mic channel muted and fader down to zero yet I still get the feedback (ie, I still hear sound via the mic and out of my monitors ..)

Thanks - I tried this - but I'm still hearing the feedback with this setting. Any idea how to prevent that ?

Hmm, I changed the input for the mic from 1 to 2 and that seemed to work ... I don't know WHY, but, anyway, I got my measurements done OK. Thanks for the input.

Seems I had to mute all the windows mixer sound settings - not totally sure how all that fits together as I only have the one soundcard, but anyhow, this stopped the feedback and I was able to make measurements OK with the "DAW Tracking" setting
