Any Focusrite ISA One Users Out There.. Thoughts on ISA and NTA1

running into my MOTU Ultralite.. now the Ultralite is the weak point..

wow is this thing flexible.. you can ride the dials higher, or step back on the dials and hit the boost switches.   It's so old school, no manual needed, just start turning knobs and you'll master it in no-time.  Set your input at unity, your direct box at unity, and let the pre-amp the the lifting and tweaking.  The best wasy I could describe it..

Lets say you are trying to drive a car exactly 47 miles per hour.  Direct in to the Ultralite was like trying to drive 47 when the speedometer is arranged in 10 mile increments.  Using the ISA One is like trying to dial in 47 with increments set every .2 miles per hour.  From what I understand the unit is simply one chanel of what you would find on a high end analog studio mixing board that George Martin helped design.

The sound paired with my new Rode NTA1 is unreal.  Great techique for funk guitar.. throw a capo on an electric and just mike it unplugged right up near the pickups.. nice.  I can't imaging the sound being all that different if I would have spent $2,000 more, I feel like I finally dialed in a nice setup with the NSAONe/NTA1 pairing.  I suppose to top it all off I would replace the MOTU with a UA or Focusrite input unit down the road.-sg

I'm happy with my ISA One as well using it with various mics. The DI could be a bit better (couldn't get a decent bass sound from it). I still have to experiment with the different mic impedance settings (someday..I've just left it on the ISA110 setting)

Another ISA One lover here.  Even without all the dewdads they've added on it is a great preamp.  Lots of headroom and a great complement to the transformerless preamps in most interfaces and cheaper mixers.  I haven't been using it here at home as much since I got the Portico, but it is waiting there.
