Any SAVIHost users here?

I'm looking for a quick and easy way to route music from iTunes, WMP, Spotify etc through a VST so that I can listen to music through the ARC2 plugin. From what I've read it seems to be doable with the free SAVIHost plugin, but for the life of me I cannot make head nor tail of getting it to work. When you run the program it brings up a file browser so that you can point it to the VST you wish to load, and I managed to get it to do that OK. But I'm at a loss as to what to select in the "Device" menu as input port and output port in order to route sound through it. So far I haven't been able to route any sound through the VST.

Has anyone managed to do this, or know of any other simple way to route all of my non-DAW audio through a VST?

I tried using VSTHost but it kept "drifting" latency-wise and I had to reset it every so often.
    PedalBoard2 works much better!

So the method you describe in that post, does it work with an external interface, or do you have to use the internal soundcard?

Sounds good. If I can route all audio through ARC2 then $35 for VAC is well worth it.

The problem is hooking another program into the signal path between the player and the audio interface. Such utilities do exist, but I've never tried them. I use hardware EQ that sits between my interface and powered speakers, so it's on all the time whether listening to CDs, MP3s or watching Netflix.

The easiest solution, I think, would be a player that can host VSTs. I have heard of people hosting ARC in both Foobar 2000 and WinAmp, using a VST wrapper plugin

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

Web audio like Soundcloud wouldn't run through ARC in the scenario posted by bitflipper.
Anything going to the soundcard goes through ARC in my scenario without having to use a specific player.
I can provide screenshots if you get VAC and need help setting it up with Pedalboard.

Yeah Bit I've read about people managing to host VST's in WinAmp and I may well look into that for my MP3 collection. However sad as it may seem, I do most of my listening on Spotify nowadays and I'd love to be able to route that audio into ARC2.

Re: Any SAVIHost users here? 2014/06/08 01:44:41 (permalink)
I tried Virtual Audio Stream and couldn't get it to work. It wouldn't scan my VST's, it got as far as about 4 and then said it couldn't recognize the rest or something.

So then I tried the VAC/Pedalboard setup. I downloaded the trial version of VAC and eventually managed to get audio running from VAC into Pedalboard and then out to my interface. It's not without its headaches though. First of all I guess you have to set VAC as your default audio device at all times, the alternative being changing the default audio device when switching between VAC use and ordinary audio use. Is there any disadvantage at all to having VAC as the default device at all times, even when using Sonar etc? More specifically, will this add any kind of latency?

The other problem I found was that Pedalboard crashed when scanning my VST's. It got about 10 plugins into the folder and exited. Luckily though, ARC2 being one of the first in the list, it got scanned and I can route audio through it. I wonder if this has anything to do with my using the 64-bit version of Pedalboard?

Anyway at this point I'm sick of listening to the voice saying "trial" every 10 seconds so I'm going to shut it down for the night and reinvestigate tomorrow. Any tips or advice would be welcome!

    sharke,
    Here are my settings:

I installed the 32bit version of the ARC vst dll file in it's own folder and that's all pedalboard scans so no crash for me and I've not experienced any latency with these settings.

Yeah I guess I should just copy it to its own folder. I don't need any other plugins in Pedalboard. Those look like the default VAC settings right? I didn't change anything and it seemed to work.

So do you have VAC set as your default device at all times, or do you manually set it as default every time you want to use it? If you have it set as your permanent default, do you have VAC in your startup folder or something? Just wondering what the typical workflow is for using it.

It is set as my default device for Windows 7 and I only use it with my internal Realtek. I leave pedalboard with Arc loaded running all the time. I use it for all web audio, mp3 and cd collection through wmp and vlc media player, etc. Everything but Sonar.

For Sonar, I use my Motu, exclusively.

I have a Mackie Big Knob which I use as a master volume control and input selector between my Realtek and my Motu.

VAC is not in my startup folder because it is a device driver, runs all the time but pedalboard is in my startup folder. Don't remember the specifics but like I said, I use the 32 bit version of Arc with pedalboard, I think it may have crashed with the 64 bit Arc, don't remember because I set it up so long ago...

Updating this old thread to report success using VB-Audio virtual device with PB2 and ARC2 in Win10

I don't have PB2 set for auto startup yet, but it's working great for Windows audio.

VB audio set as default device -> PB2 w/ARC2 loaded -> Realtek audio device

I created a separate folder for a copy of ARC2 to keep PB2 from scanning/seeing a gazillion plugs

I have much the same setup but with Virtual Audio Cable and PB2.

I enhanced my experience somewhat by using NirCmd and a batch file to create two scripts which turn this setup on and off. These scripts I named "VAC.bat" and "Speakers.bat" - the first one sets my audio device to "Line 1" (which is VAC) and then opens VAC and Pedalboard2. The second one sets my audio device to "Speakers" (which is my Babyface) and turns VAC and PB2 off. I then added these two scripts to a folder on my taskbar so I can basically use them as commands to switch between one and the other. I keep the scripts in my Windows file on C: in a folder I've called "Audio Control."

If you want to install NirCMD and tailor these scripts for yourself, here they are (just replace the relevant info with yours):

    VAC.bat:
    @ECHO OFF
    NIRCMDC setdefaultsounddevice "Line 1" 1
    NIRCMDC exec min "c:\Program Files\Virtual Audio Cable\vcctlpan.exe"
    NIRCMDC exec hide "C:\Program Files\Pedalboard2\Pedalboard2-64bit.exe"

    Speakers.bat:
    @ECHO OFF
    NIRCMDC setdefaultsounddevice "Speakers" 1
    NIRCMDC closeprocess "c:\Program Files\Virtual Audio Cable\vcctlpan.exe"
    NIRCMDC closeprocess "C:\Program Files\Pedalboard2\Pedalboard2-64bit.exe"

Thanks James.  At this point it looks like I can easily turn ARC on/off as needed ... not that I think I'll need it off for anything.  I'm using VB as the default for Windows, but still use my 16x08 for all DAW stuff.

I have your script filed FFR ... you never know

BTW, this is all with x64.  I had read above that some had installed the x32 ARC for this purpose.  I didn't need to do that.

I think the only reason why you'd have to use ARC2 in 32-bit is if you were using the 32-bit Pedalboard.
