Any Vienna Ensemble Pro users???????

Hello! Ok, here's my problem, I'm using VEPro along with Sonar 8.5 on Windows 7 64bit and I have connected an M-Audio Fast Track Ultra 8R.  I wanted to be able to load multiple instances of Kontakt and such into one instance of VEPro and be able to play in Sonar's MIDI tracks 16 channels of each VST installed on the one instance of VEPro. The only way to do this is to use a virtual MIDI device like Loopbe30. In Sonar, when you've selected a MIDI channel and set the output to VEPro you only get 16 channels, that's it. It doesn't recognize VEPro's inputs: "VE Pro Plugin MIDI In 1, 2" and so forth that's inside of VEPro, you have to use a Virtual MIDI device. The problem is that Loopbe30 and the M-Audio don't work togther so I have to disable the Loopbe rendering it useless. Is there another way to do this? ....a way to get Sonar to recognize the multiple MIDI inputs of VEPro?

Thanks,
-Mike

I have a question (because I'm not familiar with VEPro) - why do you need  Kontakt, Sonar, Vienna and a virtual midi device just to record MIDI?
It almost seems like you want Sonar to host VPro while VPro runs Kontact, etc - yet Sonar is a great host.
Excuse me if I am ignorant to your needs - but can you explain how it supposed to work (to the ignorant?)

No problem, Vienna Ensemble Pro is mainly used in a multiple computer networked studio environment to host multiple instances of all of your VST's including Vienna instruments and preserve setups while switching between projects, film cues, etc. without having to save and reload every time. It can also be used on one computer to give a cleaner mixing environment for all of your VST's. It's very useful to mix VST components in VEPro while mixing MIDI and audio components in Sonar and do your mastering there.

Sometimes my setup requires the used of the software on the aforementioned one computer while not networked and VEPro requires the use of a "Virtual MIDI Device" in addition to your other devices if you want Sonar to be able to create multiple MIDI patches of one VST.

    Thanks!

    Mike,

If you're not already familiar with this forum, then you should be. It's frequented by lots of film composers with large sophisticated computer setups, and VE Pro is a basic tool for them. I'm sure someone there can get you sorted.

Thanks for the explanation Mike - it's truly amazing how far software has come in this industry!
