Any fishing friends here?

Well I am about on info overload trying to study some of the technical threads going on trying to learn what Im doing.

Just so happens the Salmon and Steelheads are moving up the river by the house.

New to this type of fishing and gonna give my brain cell (Singular ) a break and go try and figure out these fish.

Are you competing with the local griz for these fish?  That could be a bit dangerous.

Fresh fish is always a tasty treat however...... especially when grilled on a campfire !!!

I just bought a place with a pond. The pond itself is about 3/4acre. Pretty big for a man made pond. The previous owner stopped by to 'pick up the Christmas Tree' he left out back ... but he really stopped by to see who bought the place.

He said he stocked it with catfish, bass, and bluegill.

Im not a big fisher, but ,i will cast a line from time to time.

Those Salmon and Steelhead put up an awesome fight.

I hooked something huge one time in the river by my old house in Iowa. No idea what it was, but it took my line out a good 25 feet before i cut it loose. Friend of mine said it was probably an old Bullhead. Said they get huge and its impossible to bring them in.

I haven't been fishing for years.

Best justification I can think of for sitting in a nice spot all day and doin' nuthin'.

I could fish off the beach but that is too much hard work.  Give me some fresh water angling any day.

    Bub-Nice move!
Coulda been anything that got off, sucks when ya never get to see it but great for the memories. My son landed a 62.5 flathead cat when we were down south. Up where you were coulda even been one of the monster sturgeons. Hope ya get on 'em when you decide to go!

Bouy-Nothing to me beats a calm river or a nice sized lake just roaming around in the boat fishing. Im just off of Lake Michigan (Which is like a Sea) and one of the main river runs just a mile behind my house with a nice concrete launch ramp.
As far as the fish, nothing beats having a 10-20 lb Salmon, steelhead, bass, catfish, muskie, whatever BLOW UP on some top water and to top it off being so relaxed in the outdoors

LMAO offnote-Fun to catch 'em but I dont know what people do with them carp

That was my speciality, still water Carp fishing at dusk usually on a crust.

Yes, certainly a light drag and keep them out of the dern reeds if you can, allow 15 to 30 minutes for the fight...

So... this is how I spent a few hours last weekend.....

The green on on the left is mine..the orange one is my wife's.

just chilling at the pond. Seriously though, I do believe the turtles in that pond ate all the fish. We had some good hits..... but couldn't get it on the shore..... I think it was turtles.

We were camping and this pond was 30 feet from the camper..... really nice site.

Biggest things we get that ain't fish are frogs.

I'll bet you'll hear the Carp sucking around those lily pads at dusk though.

This is a state park in NC.... Jordan Lake State Park. And we have been camping there for a very long time. Generally this site is a nice one but we often bypass it in search of one closer to the main lake.

I remember we camped on this pond several times in the past and fished it every time..... there has never been any fish in it as far as I can remember.  I think the turtles ate the fish.

I was kinda hoping the state would have stocked it with catfish or sun fish or big mouth bass but apparently not.  Standing along the shore..... looking into the water, usually you can see the fish, even if it's only the minnows..... but I didn't see anything.

Next time.... no pond.... fish the lake. There are some trophy sized fish in the lake.

I am big on fly fishing salt water.  Anything from Bonefish to reds to hopefully tarpon one day (the trophy saltwater fly).

I have spinner stuff too, but love the 9' rods, the 1:1 gearing....

Yup... as kids, we used to get our bows, grab some old arrows and head to the pond. We also did some bullfrog gigging like that.... you had to be very careful and quiet to sneak up on a big frog.....  Of course also, we did not have the fancy string attached to the bow so shooting at fish in deep water was a risky proposition because we lost a bunch of arrows that way.

But hey...anything that involves fish, boats, bows and arrows and water and women has to be fun....right?

I need to get me one of those fancy new bows...... they just look so cool.... all I ever used was a recurve.

to be honest spear fishing is the most enjoyable for me and also more fair to the fish.

Here we have ladders at the dams for fish to swim up around the dams.  Once the water drops in temp to around 60 degrees they really start pushing up through it.

Heres a direct link to see whats on the cameras. (They update every 2 minutes)
    http://www.michigandnr.com/fishcam/

We dont have to wonder when to go, just need to grab my coffee and get in the truck. Boat is always hooked up and ready.

and gooderer too OMG my fingers LOL

These fish just flood in from Lake Michigan. For the salmon its kinda sad cause mother nature makes it their last swim.  They die from the inside out after spawning.

Where I am is close to the lake so we get them fresh before they are half spent trying to get to where they are headed.
