I have the imperial kit and it's definitely one the better ones but I've said it before and I'll say it again,
your decision may have a lot to do with what genre you work in and what particular sound you're looking for that you feel the BFD3 kits don't give you. My most frequently used kit has been the cocktail kit but some people won't like the sound at all as it's useless for metal and rock. It has a close intimate and slightly metallic sound and is ideal if like me, you like to pulverise your kits with wacky effects. It's also one of the cheapest and smallest kits which is even better. It's perfect for more modern styles like drum and bass and grime and dub-step as well as house and garage.
One of the things that I thought set fxpansion apart from others was their kit pages where you could audition each kit piece in it's raw form. They seem to have abandoned tis with their new expansions which I think is a really bad move and have told them so
The 8 bit kit is another extraordinary kit but you might not have so much use for it and to be honest I've only used it in one of my songs but it made the world of difference. If you listen to a track called appropriately,
8 Bit Blues you can hear it and the leady kick is what makes it, it has serious boom.
Also you can hear the flexatone which is from the percussion kit and one of the main reasons I bought the percussion kit was because I knew this track had to have one. the song is just a noodling idea right now but one day I'll get to finish it.
The percussion kit is great but for me was quite an extravagance as I don't use a lot of percussion.
