one of our little broadtail females got right in my face this morning... as i walked out to the garage from the house, i pass by the closest feeder... i mean RIGHT in my face! heheh i could see her eyelashes...... i made fresh hummy gruel last night, about an hour before dusk... and when i took the feeder in to clean it, this same little hummy female followed me all the way to the door... about 2 feet over my head, i could see her little spots around her face, the color on the chest. i call them 'greenbacks', but hell, they ALL have greenbacks! heheheheh she was chirping, watching... i looked at her and smiled, and said 'be right back' soon as i came out to hang the feeder, she was sitting on the power line right over my head, waiting. LOL so this morning, when she was floating right in front of my face, i think she was just saying 'thank you', because i cannot imagine any other reason why she would fly within 1-1/2 feet of my face, and look me right in the eyes... strange, but cool.

Bats that's really cool. Maybe I need to mix some different gruel. Hopefully Craig hasn't patented his recipe.

batsbrew i thought you were a seagull fan.
Not since a flock of em flew over my head back in the 80's........since then, I've learned to stay closer to the coop with my chicken_foot.

Yep, pretty much the same except I've got three measuring cups that are ONLY for use with the feeders (two 16 oz. and one 32 oz.) so that way they never get other substances in them. They only get washed in hot water as well - nothing else. Since each of the measuring cups has metric on one side, I put sugar in up to the 100ml line (or the 200ml line on the 32 oz. cup), then add water to the top of the 500ml (or 1liter) lines. Then into the microwave for three minutes (for the smaller cups, six for the larger), let cool and pour into the feeders - after cleaning each with only hot water and the occasional paper towel wipe inside. I had a tenant who didn't follow some part of this and he didn't get a single visitor at his feeder (he resented ME for that - figures).
