Any pitch shifters in sonar platinum?

Hello,

I would like to pitch shift without changing notes a vocal but cannot find a single plugin packed in sonar platinum for this, could someone tell me if sonar has one please?

Thanks,

Ben

Thank you for the reply, but with Melodyne I have found that the note is affected when trying to move a male voice to a higher pitch, unless there is something I have missed in Melodyne?

Timbre will always be affected by pitch shifting unless there is formant correction. That feature is not available in Melodyne Essential, but is in higher versions. You can also try using the Transpose function for audio, but that does not have formant correction either.

It shouldn't be too obvious for small changes. What are you trying to do?

EDIT: Also, just to save you some time, Melodyne is pretty much the industry standard for vocal pitch editing (I guess together with AutoTune which was birthed from a different angle). While the version that comes with Sonar is basic, you won't find any plugin or software that does what you asked for significantly better.

In the past there was a cakewalk vst in my sonar x3, upon upgrading to platinum, this vst has been removed but I was using this super simple vst called pitch shifter to make male voices sound as female(for electronic music), it was fantastic and so simple, 1 knob. Melodyne is, unfortunately, wayyyy too expensive.

It is not clear which X3 plug-in you are writing about. The Cakewalk Pitch Shifter is a DX plug-in and was discontinued with X2. It looked like this:

This is the only Cakewalk Pitch Shifter I know about. It is possible to get this back by running the advanced install of SONAR X2 or older. Make sure to install the 64bit version if running 64bit SONAR.

This was available in Sonar 5 through X2, but not in X3.  Roland V-Vocal.  Any chance you were using this?

If he's referring to V-Vocal, you can still use it in Platinum.

Upon re-reading the OP I'm not sure what exactly is desired by "pitch shifting without changing notes"...by definition, a shift in pitch will change the note. Maybe he means a change in timbre. The Melodyne version that ships with SONAR will do that because it won't compensate for timbral changes.

Then again for my last song where I needed a female vocal, I had a female sing the vocal. Sounded just like a female singing a vocal

This is basic, rudimentary, audio editing that should be standard equipment in any audio editor. It's a shame few companies have figured that out.

I found a free phone app for pitch and speed that sounds as good or better than any cpu driven utility including $$Melodyne$$!

Still looking for a formanting app.

I think the OP wants to shift formant without pitch, upon rereading the conversation. He wants a male voice to sound like a female one without changing notes.

I don't think this ever sounds very realistic, but the more expensive Melodyne versions do allow you to edit formants.

Thanks you all.

I did not think this thread would get so many replies!

I will reply one by one to your questions.

Yes I meant "Format Pitch" which means changing the timbre of the voice and not the pitch.

+1 for the idea about reinstalling sonar x2 to get this magic plugin back, great idea!

Regarding V-Vocal, it looks like they removed it in platinum!!! why this? It was a great piece of kit and fantastic format shift possibilities too.
Would reinstalling x2 or x3 brings v-vocal back in platinum?

Thanks all!

To get V-vocal back run the X2 advanced install and select minimal installation from the component list drop down. It is also possible to select other plug-ins while running the minimal install.

Re: Any pitch shifters in sonar platinum? 2017/05/21 08:52:55 (permalink)
Since my newest computer has loads of space, I decided to install every version of Sonar I own (the rights to use) so that I would have access to all the plugins I paid for if ever I should need or want to use them.... but mostly so they would all be there when I open very old projects that contain them.

Since V-Vocal is the only Sonar plugin that has formanting capability, it remains installed and on hand for that purpose.

I mainly use it to bring vocals "back" to reality after changing the pitch, not to alter them. It works quite well for that.

The forments aren't changed in this though, it's just slowed, and so a lower pitch. Changing the formants would do the same without slowing the track or changing the pitch. You can do the same in Sonar

The slowed record version that sparked that has the same effect

Yes, I am aware that this is just a standard speed change simulating 45rpm played at 33.3rpm. The OP was asking about pitch shifters - I was simply making the point that Audacity is a useful tool that can do this as well as many other things.

While we are at it, Sonar Platinum should have Formant Scaling, but this option is grayed out. Any reasonable explanation why it doesn't work, or it's a bug?

Formant Scaling is only available when the chosen algorithm supports it.  MPEX algorithms that were available in SONAR prior to version X1 supported formant scaling.  The Radius algorithms do not support formant scaling.

For all I know MPEX may still be available, I do not install 32bit SONAR. MPEX was never ported to 64bit.

Thanks for this info! I might be wrong, but official iZotope docs say that Radius does support Formant correction.

I pitch-shift male and female vocals in Melodyne quite frequently and they sound fine without any formant correction.  That said, I limit transpositions to a whole tone in most cases.
