Any suggestions on MIDI Arpegiator?

Hey All

Let me know if you've got a favorite MIDI Arp plugin

I like the cake one, works well, just curious to see what others are using

Thanks all

If you want something that is a true arp, check out 7Aliens Catanya:

    http://www.7aliens.com/product-catanya.php

But, if you want something that is more of a step sequencer, check out Sugar Bytes' Thesys:

    http://www.sugar-bytes.de/content/products/Thesys/index.php

Both work great with Sonar IME.

    Check out Sugar Bytes "Thesys".

But I do think Sonar's arp is not bad.

Like anything else, it depends on how someone uses it - and with what synth patches.

I used Catanya for a while too but wasn't to impressed by it. Went back to the internal arpeggiator of my MC-909. This one is killer.
I looked a bit into the X1 Arpeggiator and I like it pretty much. Still I would love to create some own .arp patterns but X1 doesn't seem to support this function.
Is there any programm I could do this with or can I create own patterns in Sonar and just haven't found it yet?

Leibre, Wouldn't the Step Sequencer allow you to create patterns? They can then be saved for later use and applied to any synth..

Yes, shure. I can create patterns via the step sequencer. Still these patterns are fixed on notes and I can't play them like I could play an arpeggio pattern.

I too have Catanya and its very flexible , I like it alot , I like the fact you can record the notes as played in real time and adjust patterns in real time. Sonar's Arp could have great potential but it lacks a good UI, running through presets is not to easy or fun you keep losing your spot in line and you end up having to find where you left off..( SO STUDIP) Sonar makes it chore to preview arp patterns . So I never bother with sonars arp..It would be so cool if it was easy as lets say to just hit an 1/8 notes pattern hold down a key and freely adjust 1/8 to 1/16 with out and skipping or lost notes, Sonar can not do this,, I use Maschine to this this with no problem. So 1 major reason why Sonars arp stinks, and not to mention it dosn't record some notes. At least in 8.5 it was like that..
Now something I wish I can get or wish some other developer would make would be something like Steinberg's Xphraze, great idea only if the patterns could be recorded as midi... To bad its been taken off the market and we cant get it anymore.

    Thanks all for the suggestions

    Second a few things

The Sonar Arp works well, but lack of UI combinded with how clunky the list are is frustrating.

Secondly, being able to require the actual notes patterns coming out of arp would be great, are there any plugins that do this, that give you a midi pattern?  How would that work with DAW, would you have to put the track in record mode?

    Thanks again

I just tried the Step Sequencer and it seems to work great. In the step record mode you can enter any combination of notes (or chords) one at a time to create any pattern/arpeggio you'd like. Save the pattern and use it later with any synth, modify as needed to add timing, change individual note velocities, add swing, mute and flams. Create an entire library of arps that you custom design. I might be missing something but seems to work great.

Oh yeah the Step Sequencer pattern can then be converted to MIDI for more mods if needed.

EDIT: I now see how this won't work so well as you can't change keys or notes as you can with an arp. My bad.

I missed this post and don't quite understand. "...I can't play them like I could play an arpeggio pattern." Oh, do you mean changing beginning arp notes etc.?
    I think I get it.

Hey Tom you can achieve this with sonars ARP. The only thing if i recall from the last time I used it was for some reason it wouldn't record the first notes, and adjusting the pattern in real time I don't believe I was able to.  What would be cool if sonar switched the UI around added rotary encoders ( Act and midi learnable )  instead of drop down arrows, allow for the patterns to be shuffled at will, allow for all parameters to be recorded in real time.

    Tom,

If you "bounce" the clip(s) while the arp is on, you will end up with MIDI clips of the actual pattern.

    Check out Sugar Bytes "Thesys".

But I do think Sonar's arp is not bad.

Like anything else, it depends on how someone uses it - and with what synth patches.

Thesys looks pretty intense, any comments?  You guys that are using it find it worth the $$

I'm still checking out the demo myself, but I've been wanting to look into this plugin for awhile.
I like the Sugar Bytes stuff a lot.

I can't get it to work in 64 bit with bit bridge, I see it gets picked up by the VST scan but it doesn't show up in the plugin manager.

Yeah I posted that in the software forum. I think Kirnu is awesome and free? No brainer.

There's a thread over on the software forum for installation and routing if you have a hard time getting it to work, as I did.
