Any tips on reducing delay/lag/latency?

Hi,

I've nearly got the setup working!

New laptop and X1, then needed to purchase ProSonus Soundcard interface. I've got the setup running (finally), but when I play the keyboard, there was a debilitating delay. Through research, I was able to reduce the delay to around 5.3 mSec's. However, this is still a delay that I need to edit within X1.

I have the option of returning the ProSonus and purchasing Roland's own Soundcard/interface (an extra $100). Will this improve/reduce the delay?

Is it impossible to eliminate delay?
What is a reasonable amount of delay?
Once the midi piece (piano) is recorded, is there a simple way to edit the entire piece forward by 5.4mSec?

Cheers, Ian

    Sorry to hear that...
this is something I have to do once and a while.

I normally run all my tracks to a master bus....not the direct out ...

So when I am recording if I send the (record) track 'direct' out (to speakers or audio device)
you may be already doing this ?

    Good luck
