Anybody checked out the new P5 2.01 update yet?

I am not able to get to the new update just yet and was wondering what specific issues does it address. Is there a readme file?

    You beat me to it.

Looks like a nice set of new features - vertical zoom for clips, bounce to track. Well, we can all read, so I'll stop there.

Bounce to track! NICE! Can't wait till I can get home and install this. Freezing/importing isn't the most fun way to get a midi/softsynth loop back in as an audio loop. Hopefully this will be good.

Select an area of your project, select bounce to track, it renders it as an audio file, then automatically brings it back into the project as a new track and places it in the same spot as the original stuff. At least this is how it works in Acid and Sonar. Bouncing was around before freezing. Freezing is like an auto bounce to track feature that also automatically unloads the source instruments.

Hey, thanks for the link Kegerator! It looks like a very worthwhile patch update. Probably more worthy of a 2.1 definition than a simple 2.01 maintance/bug fix.

It will be interesting to see if the changes to Dimension will see a significant cpu usage change in our old friend Taboo...

The bounce to track addition is a great bonus...

I just installed the patch and the most amazing result is that my CPU usage is less than half what it used to be. For example, Elevator Radio used to take about 55% to 60% of my CPU. Now it takes 20% to 25%!! I'm now wondering why I ordered a new CPU for the P5 machine

i thought that "2~20%" was a typo in the feature list
    i guess not.

of course, you know what this means
if the current trend of cpu reduction continues, Dimension will actually be providing increased cpu capacity by September/October. Projects that are unable to run now will able to run when an instance or two of Dimension are added.
It's really an ingenious plan. It may even expand cpu capacity outside the program -- need more cycles? just run P5 v2.04 witha few instances of Dimension and that SQL Server will provide faster response times. This will probably mean Bill Gates or Andy Grove will acquire Cakewalk by years end.

    What! That is amazing!

I just picked up a copy of the July edition of Sound on Sound and P5v.2 had a very nice review. One of the cons highlighted were the CPU usage of Dimension, well that is now a thing of the past! It was not that big a deal for me anyway.

    Anyway...finally Bounce to track...Yes!

Okay, I just did some tests with the "Elevator Radio" file, I can't believe the results

    P5 V2.0 CPU %......BUFFERS.....P5 V2.01 CPU %

    38%.......................1024..........22%

    55-59%..................512............25-27%

    86-91%..................256............35-38%

    Will Not Play...........128.............43-55%

    Will Not Play............64..............81% with Distortion

    AMD XP2600+
    RME Hammerfall

These numbers are great, way to go CAKEWALK !!!

Wow, that is a nice performance boost there on those Elevator Radio stats.

How did you guys even notice this update to 2.01 was available? I received no email notice, nor see any message on this board announcing it? Did Billy Buck just find it by accident?

Okay, I've downloaded and installed the 2.01 update and already I've found some new features/enhancements, that I really like already. My favs so far:

Display Automation/Editing values in Tool Tips: The addition of the editing values in tool tips for the arrange and editing panes is fantastic. Now you know, in detail, where you are at, at all times when editing notes/patterns. Plus the automation tool tips is the icing on the cake. This makes life so much easier

Vertical zoom in the Arrange pane: I never understood why this was available for the Edit pane, but not the Arrange pane, in 2.0. Great to see this has added now, in 2.0.

Oh btw, who knows what that little keyboard icon is for, that is located to the right of the Editor & Loops/Ptns icons? It changes color when you click on it. It was not there in 2.0.

Yeah, this was a complete surprise! And the depth of the improvements is really astonishing for a x.01 upgrade. We have our Cake and eat it too.

Yeah, you nailed it, it was by happenstance. Cakewalk must have just posted the P5 2.01 update info, after 9am EST, on the "Professionals" webpage, when I came across it, while at work. Although, when I got home I did receive an official Cakewalk email, at about 3:30PM EST, with news of the update.

I cannot find anything on 2.01 the resembles a little keyboard icon to the right of the loops / patterns icons. The button next to the float icon is just for showing or hiding unless I'm mistaken.

The only little keyboard icon I can see is the one just under the global solo icon and that is for adding instruments and device chains or have I misunderstood the question...?

Here's some further proof that the patch works.

I new full well that my machine fell outside the minimum system requirements to run P5v2. I have a 1.11ghz machine with 512 meg and P5v2 requires a 1.2ghz with 512 meg.

I've been able to open the program and open some of the sample files, but as soon as I hit play, it would crash my machine, I'm sure do to resources. I am now able to actually open up a file and play it without crashing. That's fantastic (although I am in the middle of building a 3ghz 2 gig machine). Also, it took forever to run through the rewire initilization when opening. I'm glad that has been greatly reduced.

Way to go Cakewalk. You've lowered the minimum system requirements with this patch.
