Anybody happy w/ Revised 4.0.3?

Not to be insensitive to or discredit those that are having problems, but strickly reading posts in the forum may not be an accurate indication of how well the patch is working. I say that because most people post when having issues (I think).

I'm just wondering how many are using the revised patch with no issues. I haven't applied the patch yet and I'm wondering if it's a good idea to do it now or should I wait it out. Are most of the problems associated with the patch related to the original patch? Will there even be another revision or update to fix whatever is wrong?

The revised patch seems great so far. More testing to do...

As I understand it, the only changes to the revised patch were to ensure that it installed correctly. If 4.0.3 installed correctly, then the revised patch is not needed. So what it comes down to is that all of those people saying 4.0.3 is working great for them are relevant to your question, not just the ones with the revised patch.

For more info, see the top sticky in the Sonar forum. Here's a partial quote:
    I’ve already installed a SONAR 4.0.3 update

You may not need to install the new 4.0.3 update. To determine if you need the update, check the version property of a specific SONAR file. The file is called cw13auto.dll and it resides in the \Shared Utilities\ folder. When SONAR has been successfully updated to version 4.0.3, the version of cw13auto.dll should read 13.0.3.361. If your file displays some other version number, you need to install the new 4.0.3 patch.

The 4.0.3 patch is working fine here.

It sounds like there are 2 main problems being reported with it:
    1) Portions of audio don't play back during recording
    2) Jump envelopes not working sometimes - although some people are reporting that all envelopes are unreliable, this may be related to use of particular plug-ins.
These both seem to be system-dependent. I've not seen either of them at all.

The gains are great - the non-gapping audio engine is a dream come true for me, and also apparently to some of those who didn't see the big deal with gapping. Once you've tried 4.0.3, you'll see the difference. Note that the actual audio produced is unchanged, it's just than may common gestures no longer cause gaps, clicks, pops etc.

I would strongly suggest that you try 4.0.3 out when you have some spare time (i.e. not when a client is about to visit!). Beforehand, make a copy of all your .INI files in the SONAR program files folder. If you find that you're having problems, the safest solution is to uninstall SONAR, then re-install and patch back to 4.0.2, then put your .INI files back. There are also registry settings, but I believe they are preserved through this process.

    Good luck!

Hey Steve - on one of your larger projects (10+ tracks) could you please try the punch in thing I mention in this post and report the outcome?

It is working for me. I don't use the envelopes, the computer keyboard for anything but typing in text, nor do I use the automation features. But for audio and MIDI recording/playback, softsynth/samples, editing and every other aspect of the program that I do use it works fine. So far that is.

Apart from the jump envelope UAD-1 automation not working, 4.03 is doing everything else I was hoping for. It installed correctly the first time, too.

    4.0.3 was great except for:
    1) jump envelope bug (a show-stopper for me, since I use them all the time)
    2) track layers keep appearing (even when show layers toggle is off)
    3) metronome gets off if you move NOW time during playback

I reverted to 4.0.2 by restoring a ghost (drive image) I had made right before upgrading to 4.0.3. That was far easier than uninstalling and reinstalling Sonar.

I have never used Ghost. How big are the images and where do you store them (CD's, DVD's, etc..)?

The ghost for my DAW's C: partition is about 1.7GB. I backup ghosts to another drive on the DAW and also to another PC on my network.

I don bother backing up ghosts to CD/DVD. I don't see the advantage. If I lose my entire computer (e.g., fire, lightning, theft), the ghosts are useless (since they are system-specific).

Data files (e.g., audio, projects) are a different matter; I back them up to two other PCs and two CDRs, one of which I put in the bank.

Do you have multiple computers on your network?

No, such images are only drive-specific, meaning that one can only re-install them on exactly the save type of drive with exactly the same partition-scheme. But the do not depend on any other hardware.
However, Windows may go nuts a bit if you use them of a system with other hardware, but it still works after installing the missing drivers manually.

    cheers,
    Chris

Ron, any idea why the dropouts occur to playback during recording. Since its random and happens across the board to even brand new audio projects with only three tracks, no fx, no midi, no nothing, its not reproducible.

I loved everything about 403 except this, and this makes it unuseable. Would love to be able to update again.

It's working very well for me.

I now only have 1 little issue which is that when closing a project sonar will sometimes poof. That's it - and I've been really hectic recently and hammering the little whore good and proper ;)

oh and sometimes when rendering sonar will forget to include a clip - but I think that's when I'm really stressing the system beyond it's limits so i'll let that one pass.

    Kind regards

No, such images are only drive-specific

Perhaps I should clarify: if I lose a complete computer, then I'll buy another computer and reinstall XP from scratch. I won't be restoring from ghost files in that case. The only time I use ghosts is if I want to restore a computer to a previous state (w/ no hardware changes in the meantime).

Hmm.. let's see...translated into reality this means:

    5000 people downloaded the patch
4000 of those people are using illegal copies of Sonar and aren't sure what to do with their patches
500 actually installed the patch but had to go to bed early that night
250 actually tried loading Sonar and were happy that it loaded at all
50 people actually tried running a project - which was mostly MIDI files
25 people actually tried recording analog audio but that was only like 2 or 3 tracks
10 people recorded 16 or more tracks and didn't have a problem
5 people recorded 16 or more tracks and had problems and took the time to respond back here about the problems.

The rest tried reinstalling Sonar from scratch and hosed their system.

    I could be wrong

I wanted to hold off commenting on the patch until I had a chance to test it on both of my DAWs (Athlon and Intel P4) and I finally got around to testing it on the Athlon last night. So far everything is great and it seems to get along well with the UAD-1s (2 cards in each system). It's important to note that I never had any issues with the 4.0.2 patch other than not being able to do a fast freeze using the UA plugs. That has been taken care of with the latest patch though (original release)...

For those of you who have been experiencing problems believe me, I know how frustrating things like this can be. My system was plagued with problems in the beginning (remember the Roland Studio Pack ). I can't even begin to count how many hours I spent in front of my DAW and trust me, very little if any recording was being done. I hope it all gets sorted out for you guys.
