Anybody out there using Telnet or Running Synchronet Bbs?

Anybody out there using Telnet or Synchronet Bbs? Just wondering.....

If you do and use Dove-Net's message system I would like to ask you a few questions if that is alright.

Telnet....

Hmmm.  Long-lost memories of the early 90's.

Winsock?   (What is that?)

Yeah, when I got outa the Bbs scene all there was was dial up. I knew of several multi-line Bbs's at the time, but the people who had them had multi-telephone bills. :-)

It surprised me, I thought Bbs's were just plain gone for good. I was bored and done a little research and found that they are alive and well, there are a bunch of them still out there using Telnet or dialup, or both.

It's interesting to check out if you ever ran one and are into that kinda stuff. I ran over 20 different programs of them a long time ago "All Dial Up", ofcourse one at a time as they became available. It was always frustrating at the time because floppy drives were what most everybody used then, hard drives came out a little later but they were just way outa my price range at the time. Most of the people who ran those during that time wanted you to pay to access their systems. I never charged for nothing, all my BBS's were always free for all to use.

I figure what the heck, I have an xtra computer I ain't using for nothing so I'll set it up to run one myself with Telnet.  Synchronet seems to be the easiest choice to get one setup and running really quick IMO. I've looked at several. I may run Renegade, I used to run that one a long time ago and I think i may still have some of my original menus lying around somewhere.

If for nothing else I wanna get this BBS setup to show my 11 year old nephew a little bit of history as to what I grew up with using a computer. LOL, I can hear it now : "What's that ANSI picture? The monitor needs to be adjusted".

If anybody is interested in this just send me an email or reply. Or even better if you've been running one let me know, I could use all the helpful information I can get, I can't believe at all the stuff I have forgotten about how to do with this simple programs.
