Anybody willing to critique a mix for me?

So i don't post in here much as I am not really working on much original music.  I have a few mixes that I'd like to get some feedback on.  We'll start with one for now.  This is a mix from dueling mixes that I did a couple of months ago.

Soundcloud link is here.

This track was written, performed and recorded by J and The Screaming Choir.  As mentioned above, this was a track that the dueling mixes community had the opportunity to mix.  I am looking for constructive feedback on problems and things that I might have missed or could do better.

Thanks in advance for your time and feedback.

I like this. Much power and energy in the band and vocals. Great arrangement. Guitars are sweet and clean. I would up the vocal a little and boost the mid-high and high end eq so I could better follow the lyrics. (clarity) Just my opinion. Drums sound great.  Nice job overall.

Wow. I love this song mix overall! Sounds like some 'pumping' during the chorus ... bit too much limiting/compression? Might want to back off on that a tad, during that section. Nice use of multiple instruments. They give a lot of colour to the piece. Placed nicely in the stereo field. Horns might be a tad loud during the big blasts. Your lead vox could cut through a hair more, via some doubling or parallel compression that features a distorted version of the same lead vocal, mixed in gently to support the main.

Great song, great piece of work. You should be very proud of your work here! Is this pre-master?

Dave, this is a terrific song.  The mix sounds very good through my speakers although I had trouble understanding the lyrics.  I would merely turn the lead vocal up a  notch or two and call this finished.  I definitely would like to hear more of your songs.

    All the best,

Thanks for giving this a listen and some critique.

@savageopera - the lyric was the one thing I wasn't as comfortable with.  Your comment and the other two kind of confirmed it.  I tend to feature the vocal maybe a bit too much so I intentionally backed off with this mix.  I took it down just a bit much especially in the chorus.

@Flagrant Regard - was the pumping in any particular instrument (e.g. cymbals or vocals)?  Also, I ran this through Craig's aggressive mastering template but I turned off the bright button.

@Lynn - I can't take any credit for the writing, performance, arrangement (other than my mixing decisions) or recording of this project.  This was strictly a mix.

Background vocals could come up a fraction @1:38.  It's a great song, good luck with it.
