After fully composing, tracking and mixing a complete project, I've had one crash using X3e, and I blame PerfectSpace (64bit anytime Cakewalk?). I also had two issues pop up, but neither were showstoppers. So far, I'm pretty happy I skipped installing X2... Regards, Dan

Yes, I've had more crashes and more audio dropouts after the x3e update. Nothing else changed on my system. IMO x3e is less stable.

Yes I don't understand why my screen freezes when playing back a project its happened three times now following the X3e update I had no problems before this. I inserted one more soft synth to a project running 4 soft synth tracks and one midi track then the problem of screen freezing started. The. Cpu usage isn't high at all so iam in limbo here!

Don't know. If it were common, one would expect more posts about the subject. There might be an answer other than the two suggested in this post. The only suggestion I will offer is supply more details.

A 'me, too' post - I have encountered no crashes in X3e. I don't recall having many in X3d or earlier versions, though.

It's impossible to answer your question without knowing your system specs. It could be bad hardware or conflicting software, but it's hard to tell without more info from you.

I'm currently using X3e with 30+ EWQL orchestral softsynths and a few effects plugins on a three year old i7 950 Windows 7 x64 Pro system with no crashes whatsoever. I even use the system for non audio purposes though I am very careful about what I install and frequently use programs like Autoruns to see what's lurking inside. After booting, Taskmgr consistently reports about 24-26 processes running. I think keeping your system lean this way really helps you achieve stability.

Last week end I was experiencing some odd issues with editing midi data in PRV mode, mostly using the scrolling forward and back to edit the velocities of the drums, since the composition requires light drum response. The issue still is somewhat touchy even after X3e, those arrows always have being sort of touchy, sometimes they work great and other times the cursor just runs away. I never updated since X3c but tried X3d first, but the update halted early in the process, so I quit that, lost the launch icon (maybe corrupted file) Rolled back the computer, then clicked on X3e and all went well during update process. The noticeable good thing was UAD plugins issue of inserting multiple UAD plugs, use to require turning UAD off\on to recover the loss response of those plugs, back to the way they were during X2 last year. Regardless of the fact that win7 is pretty good, some odd issues prompt up with other devices, such as the extra bells and whistles found on my Querty keyboard decide to work after several pushes like mute, volume....once they respond, then they are snappy.

I also use a number of EWQL soft synths and I do suspect conflict (memory?) issues between EWQL play engine and Sonar (and Sonar add ons like Addictive Drums, Melodyne, etc), in fact I think it's been going on a long time. But it seems better in some versions than others. For me X3e seems less stable than X3d, all versions of X2, X1 and Sonar 8.x ... but it's good to know this is not happening for everyone.

X3e is very stable here. In some projects I run as many as 10-15 softsynths with about the same amount of audio tracks without even so much as a hiccup.

Since you mentioned possibly being related to soft synths, did you reset and rescan your plug-ins after the installation?

I rescanned for vst plugins but I didn't reset anything. Mind you I started off with 16 plugins after the rescan sonar found 33 plugins. Will I have to reset my plugins?

I have yet to be able to successfully install any X3 update. I have been using Sonar PE 8.5.3. The downloads Cakewalk sent me crashed due to a "fatal error" during the attempted installations. Cakewalk had me send them a crash file dump, then they sent me another update which also crashed before completing installation. No dodgy software. No issues with anything else. Stable with no issues to report here including some old 32bit plugins I am using. All good!
