Anyone Doing the Touchscreen Thing- X2 and Windows 8? Digging it or What?
Maybe this has been touched on before... pardon the pun... as I didn't go past the first two pages of the forum. I'm still on X1 and Vista so I know little about Windows 8 and the touchscreen capability. Sounds like a very nice way to control Sonar- at least outside of a hardware controller like the VS700C. Is anyone using a touchscreen monitor and X2? Your thoughts?

I bought the 23" Acer touch screen. I mounted it horizontally at a slight tilt below my non touch 23" Acer. If I get a chance tonight I'll post a pic. It's not perfect, but it's pretty awesome. Especially the navigation and zoom in track view. Console view requires a high degree of accuracy. A screen larger that 23" would be better. It's getting easier the more time a spend with it. If you are a guitarist, it kind of like using a right hand tap technique. I've been using a track ball vs. a conventional mouse for years. Only because you don't need to move it around the desk. I've nicknamed my Microsoft trackball "Satan's testicle" . I think it's giving me carpal tunnel. The less I need to use it the better. The bottom line is that I'm very pleased with my purchase.

One oddity that I noticed (it would be nice if the bakers chimed in). If you touch a track number in console view to select a track, It highlights in blue as if it is selected, but it doesn't change the track that's displayed in the Inspector. You need to select the track with the mouse to do that.

so not a lot of folks are using this as of yet I take. I checked the price of the monitors and they seem to be more pricey than the standard ones. Cool to know it's started though! Thanks Mike and Joeb1cannoli!

Sacalait: You have an RME unit in your specs but not which one. I'm interested in Win 8/Touch also but I've been unable to find out if the drivers for the UFX will work in Win 8. I've been unable to find a clear unambiguous reference which says so but I have heard anecdotal evindence that, in some cases, the UFX does not play well with Win 8. Just a caveat, your units driver may be fully supported. Regards,

I have an RME MultiFaceII with the PCI card. But I can't say I'm using it much as the Roland VS700 is my main interface. I'm ALWAYS leary of jumping immediately onto a new OS or a new DAW release. It's about time for a new PC as my quad core has gone way past the point that I'd normally take a PC- more than four years! So maybe by this summer I'll be moving up to X2/Windows 8 as drivers should be available for most everything by then. Touchscreen monitors should be coming down in price as time goes on too.

I have a similar setup. A 23" Acer touch screen at an angle with a 27" non touch behind it. I am having the same problem with selecting tracks, I have to use the mouse also. Must admit it is a great setup so far.
