Anyone Ever Tried....?

Hey folks.

You may recognize me as the only guy on here who can't use his Pro Channel EQ. (I get freezes and drop outs when sweeping frequencies.) Many have tried to fix it - but I have had to accept that for some reason, it just won't work.

So, I plan to purchase a very similar looking EQ - 'Fabfilter Pro Q' and wanted to know if anyone on here uses it in Sonar and whether you know of any issues? Or simply whether you think it's any good?

Here's a nice video of it - I think it looks great, and pretty similar to the Pro Channel EQ.

Happy New Year to you all,

    LOL, Alex you kill me.

I love that video! Showing "real-world" mixing application was awesome.

I have never used the Fabfilter Pro Q, so cannot speak to it in any way, but opened the page for it and had sticker shock immediately. Recently I have been more on a quest to minimize the numbers of plug-ins I will need to get the job done and got suckered in by the iZotope Studio Bundle deal. I have never used iZotope before so gave them a run for the money on the 10-day trial and each of the three plug-ins has a pretty nice EQ built in. I now need to see if how the guy did it in that video can be done similarly with these guys... I am already committed to my choice.

Re: Anyone Ever Tried....? December 30, 13 6:49 AM (permalink)
Alex - What can I do if I already have the most up to date drivers?! You imply that I haven't tried everything! The glitching happens even when I take out my sound card and run through the on-board sound.
I've downloaded the Fabfilter Pro Q demo version - it works like a DREAM.
SURELY, after everything I've tried, this shows that the problem is the Pro Channel EQ. It shows that my set up CAN handle frequency sweeping like it should.
It looks like I will be staying with the fab filter.
But Alex - I appreciate all of your help. I wish you could literally come to my house and sit at my PC and have a go at nailing my issue!

Clintmartin - Fabfilter, on first impressions, is great! So much control. I love being able to double click a new node in. I think it doesn't sound as natural as the Pro Channel EQ, though it still sounds great, but I mainly make electronic music which shouldn't be an issue.

Mettelus: Yeah it's a nice video - I actually learned a couple of bits from it.

I just walked through that video with a set of stems I downloaded from a remix contest someone posted last week, and a nice advantage shown in that video that I cannot do is specifically tailoring frequencies to pans. That ability is rather slick with the Pro Q, I must admit.

Edit: Ozone 5 does have the Mid/Side capability, sorry for the misinformation.

I use Pro-Q. Download and demo the plug-in first to make sure it works like you expect. All FabFilter plug-ins have a fully functional 30 day demo. Do not pay retail for the plug-in. Any existing FabFilter customer can send you a 10% discount code for your first purchase.

    Dave,

Thanks for sharing. I wish other vendors would put on similar videos that actually show you how to use the products in real life situations and not just move knobs around, do a 1 ns A/B comparison while still talking.

Thanks guys. Alex, Cheers, but I'm so tired of trying to fix the pro channel issue. I think I'm gonna just accept it. 8 months of trying have just about worn me out. Fabfilter working great here, it's the answer to my prayers.

Scook, thanks for letting me in on that. I'd be grateful if someone could send me a code?

Just do me one favour if you get a chance. Upgrade to X3D and reset and rescan your plugins if you haven't already. There was an issue that may have triggered it which was fixed in D. See what happens.
