Anyone Tried SampleTank Free?

They have a new authorization manager that will not load on my system. Anyone else?

Don't know what the difference is, but I have SampleTank 2.5 XL er XT.. and I've used stuff from it, several times, between it and Kontakt 4 I'm pretty set for VST samples

The new authorization manager is what's different. Been checking forums and there's scattered reports but can't pin down a solution.

    Quote from IK website:
The new Authorization Manager is a standalone application that greatly simplifies the way IK users can register and activate their IK software and plug-ins.

Users can now launch the Authorization Manager application to register and authorize all their IK software in one convenient place, with a simple automated process. They no longer need to load multiple web pages to register and activate the software.
The wording seems to imply that you can still use the old method of registering too.

I got it a few months back.... it had the new authorization manager.... since I'm off line on the DAW, I needed to use my lappy to register it.... I don't remember all the details but it registered fine with the USB stick and IIRC an authorization file.

    IK Obi,

I went to that page but don't see the authorization manager as a product. Should I select Sample Tank Free as the product even though it installs fine? And state what? That it installs fine?

And I don't have a serial number which assume I would receive if the authorization manager would load? I'm missing something and not sure what, if anything, I should/am willing to do next.

Has anyone else succeeded with IK's authorization manager? It won't work here and I can't fill out a support ticket without a serial number which I can't get because the authorization manager won't load.

    From the support ticket page...

    Serial Number
The “Serial number” is written in the Registration Card (included with your IK Multimedia product, inside the license envelope). If you don’t have a serial number yet or cannot find it write “none” here.

    Hi Larry,
The download Mgr. automatically gets installed after the SampleTank is installed. Since it's the free one, try downloading it again from IK and install. I have the free one and it was breeze installing it.

I have used the new authorization manager and it worked fine for me.  well, as fine as it is.  But I don't like IK's authorizatino at all.  I'm also about to have to re-authorzie a couple of things and this will be my 4th time.  according to IK that's the last time i'm allowed.  that's BS.  I paid for it why can't I re-authorize it as many times as I want?  I bought it 4 computers ago and this last time was a computer crash.  a limit of 4 authorizations will influence my buying decisinos in the future.

    Beagle,
Have you tried contacting them and given your situation, request more authorizations? I figure the worst case scenario is that they'll say no more Auths, but then they would be shooting themselves in the foot......

Their tech support was pretty quick to respond on an issue I had last year.....so you've got nothing to loose.

When I ran out of authorizations due to hard drive/OS upgrades a support ticket to IK got me a fresh batch of authorizations for the products.

Yes, I think it's just to make sure people aren't giving copies away.  So if you contact them, and explain, most companies are pretty good about that.

I'm only posting this so it might help others.

I received a reply from tech support to run the AM in Administrator mode. My experience and reply below.

"Running as administrator has no discernable effect. I still get to the 'Update' page within the AM which takes me to the same file on your web site. I still have to type those unreadable words to get access to the same file which fails to load.
    Error below

"an error occured while trying to replace a file:
    deleteFile failed; code 5
    access is denied"

Any suggestions. BTW Sampletank loaded fine it's the Authorization manager that give me that error message."

Solved it by removing the older version. It simply would NOT update. My experience with IK stuff seems be very similar and mostly quite uncomfortable. From the tiny unreadable fonts on the outdated web site to the tiny unreadable font sizes in their GUI's. I'm not sure what it will take to get me to actually buy a product from them (I have the T-Racks 3 bundle but don't use it) but whenever I see that Red White and Black web site I have an actual visceral repulsion and get ready for the worst when I enter the site.

If you're following this thread Obi I'm just sharing my honest feeling about your company, its web site, authorization system and its software. Your (and your tech staff's) timely, and ultimately not very helpful, response notwithstanding, my experiences there will absolutely affect my buying decisions, and not in a good way.

Maybe a bit harsh but the request for a bigger GUI IS the first request for Sample Tank 3 - just sayin. But you're right, to each his own and thanks for your help.

Don't forget it is the sound of any VST that should have the most importance. I think Sampletank sounds great and thanks to Bitfilipper I got the free version just to check it out and it is great for sure. There is one sound in the free version that is worth getting it for alone and that is called 'Beyond Voyage' under the Sample Tank 2 Sounds in the Synth section.
It is fat, analog, jaw dropping and breathtaking all in one!

I would persevere with the authorizing process, it is well worth it.

Got it figured out Jeff - see above. Found that sound - pretty nice indeed. Still cold on the GUI but may find a use for some sounds.

It's not any different than having NI's Service Center on your PC.

Eventhough the GUI is small, like Jeff said the sounds are very good. They are very useable, light on your CPU, and quite a powerful synth. For a FREE product, it's certainly worth the minor inconvenience of registering/authorizing it.

Larry, the biggest issue most of us had with the GUI was the default red background. Thanks to Bitflipper, we discovered you could change the color. There are three tiny knobs on the right edge.
I changed mine to a light blue background, with high saturation for contrast. It's much easier to work with now.
