Anyone attending TAXI Road Rally?
Hi all. I'm a TAXI member and considering heading to the Road Rally in LA the first weekend of Nov. Any other Sonarians attending? Also, if you're interested and not a TAXI member I can get a guest pass. It's a really inspiring and informative weekend...!

I'm not planning to go this year.... I went the first year I was a member and I enjoyed it immensely. Meeting and hanging out was fun. But I'm passing on it this year. maybe next.

Jerry, TAXI is TAXI regardless of the pond. www.taxi.com is a songwriter's group, an A&R song screening service with viable leads to the industry. It is a members only rally event, but much of the stuff on the website, and their forums are free to any who wish to use them. You have to be a member to submit songs to the listings. When I attended the rally a few years back, there were about 2000 people there, and literally from all over the world. I met quite a few from Europe.

Herb, Thanks for clarifying. Embarrassingly enough, I'd never heard of it ! Cheers, Jerry

For song writers, it is a really valuable resource. The rally has a bunch of classes you can sign up for on all aspects of the music biz..... since you're not a member, that's not available to you, however, you can browse the site, read the stuff there and you can join the forum and participate there. Kinda like our songs forum here...post a song and get feedback. At TAXI, the feedback is generally more centered on the songwriting aspect whereas here it is about the recording quality. If you're looking for a writing partner, the TAXI forum has a place to meet others with the same goals in mind. I've met a few people there with whom I've partnered on a project. Check out the forum there.

Herb, I viewed their call list recently with great interest. It seemed, to me, on that one occasion, that many of the calls were requests by people who were hoping to assemble a music library that they will then offer to yet another party. To me, that seem less ideal than getting a chance to pitch a song to someone who had an immediate use for the asset. I am sincerely wondering what you have observed over the years that you have been working with them. A friend of mine from LA and I were discussing representation recently and he seemed to think that anyone outside of NYC, Nashville, L.A. or Miami should consider TAXI a bargain priced option. The idea appeals to me... but the idea of having content stuck on the back waters of a sound library label did not. I guess I thought TAXI sort of served as a virtual "library" of repertoire and artists rather than as a stepping stone to yet another level of library. All in all... it does seem like a bargain. best regards, mike
