Anyone else want a "Comment" field?

Seems like a very basic thing, but I really would like to have a per-track comments field, like PT. I'd use it all the time for gear and signal path stuff.

Go to File>Info and you can type in project notes. Go to Track>Properties and you can type in track notes.

Craig Anderton uses the track name field, which is pretty wide, for some annotation. But yes, I think a regular popup memo field tied to each track is a great idea.

Maybe while they are at it, an annotation formatter which will print the File/Project Info fields as well as the track comments, names of inserted pluggins, busses, etc. Something we could use for mix documentation. Something for the developer's spare time....

And a double-click on the Track face calls up Track Props. But the Memo field is rudimentary at best. Please give us a proper scroll bar and let it support a simple <CR>.

    Now I'm following you Stratton

Similar reply as other thread incase you missed it.

This a good suggestion. I just replied to a similar suggestion in the Reaper forums, where a bunch of us are working with the developer to hopefully develope the ultimate DAW. This feature just got implemented in Reaper. There's a few Sony Users, Sonar Users, Samplitude, Fruity Loops, and Cubase Users. Pretty much things have been going well among us as far as how we see things should be implemented and everybody is getting their say in.

Anyways, for the time being I would suggest trying out AnalogX's DXpad plugin. It's a DX plug that can be inserted anywhere a normal plugin can be inserted and it's basically a Notepad, where you can insert notes. It's free too!!!

Stop by and try out Reaper too if you're interested in working with a developer who's listening to user feedback, and if he thinks it's a good idea, he usually has a new release within 2 days of your suggestion. His name is Justin, and the guy is totally amazing all of us. He's the guy that developed WinAmp. Right now the download is Free, since he's in the development stages. So there's quite a few things that will change, including the ugly GUI, which we've already given him some graphic suggestions, that most everyone on the forum likes that he will probably implement. The target price is $20 once it's finished.

P.S. Don't let the small download size fool you. There's actually a lot of heavy hitter features in it right now, and it's less than 1meg in download size including the sample project. 2.5 meg installed.

I'll give Reaper a look. What the heck, the price is right.

Thanks to others who suggested work arounds or alternatives for a ProTools type comments field, but I still want it.

My solution is to use AnalogX's DXPAD or VstNotes for audio tracks/clips, and to use Frank's Track and Clip Notes for midi tracks/clips. See http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.asp?m=665849 for further discussion and details.
