Anyone ever tried AudioMulch?
This is one of those things that has apparently been around for a long time (10+ years) but I've never heard of it. Anyway I heard it mentioned in an old interview with Kieran Hebden (Four Tet). I've always liked his music and really admire the ways in which he takes samples and musical ideas and twists the bejesus out of them and molds something new which is virtually unrecognizable from the material he started with. He mentioned being a big fan of AudioMulch and so naturally I was curious....and after having a quick look at the website I'm still not entirely sure what it's about, but I think I'm gonna try out the demo....anyone ever used it? http://www.audiomulch.com/

Reznor and pals used it on the Fragile - which would mean late 90s. That's where I first heard about it. They'd brought PCs in the studio in order to use Audio Mulch and a couple of other pieces of PC-only software like Giga Sampler. Interesting but I'd need another lifetime to dedicate to complex synthesis and all that modular environment in order to be able to use it. A bit over the top for me.

I'm kind of hoping it's going to be one of those programs I can just thrash around randomly and come up with something charming and eclectic

Got lots of Four Tet, but have never heard of AudioMulch. Sounds like my kind of software though!

Four Tet is an interesting guy - produces all of his music inside the computer with virtually no hardware, very few plugins, and not even a MIDI keyboard. I think his first couple of albums were made with a Soundblaster card going through his living room hi-fi. I heard he uses a Waves compressor, a couple of reverbs and that's it. He just spends hours chopping up sounds and beats by ear and arranging the wav's in Pro Tools (although he used to use Cakewalk years ago). Listening to his stuff makes me realize that you really can make great music in your bedroom with the minimum of gear.

Hmmmm. I just watched the first two video tutorials and almost lost the will to live. It's as well that we're all different I guess.
