Anyone for DropZone?! (Questions inside…)

Heh, no chance of ping-pong but we'll soon be playing Dropzone!

Whoops! I meant this:

I've had no time for shooting the (sfz) breeze lately and I pop around for a quick visit to find out there's a new RGC toy about to drop (ahem). And… no one's talking! Are P5er's anti-Kinetic or something? Bah!

All I want to know is this: VSTi or DXi? Or, locked into Kinetic? I mean, can I use this new ‘sampler’ (can you believe it? They're using that dirty word!) in P5 or what? If yes, you just made a quick US $59, René.

Next thing:

Those performance controls are looking pretty familiar except for one… that's right, you saw it. What's up with ‘crossfade’?! Since it's sitting just below the loop controls I'm hoping we're talking about crossfade looping… and opcodes to boot? Please say yes!

And, if I'm on the right track here, how does the crossfade control work? Samples from the the end? Milliseconds from the start or end? I hope I'm not justing jumping to conclusions here…

Either way, a two element sfz machine with a waveform display would be welcome in the family (as long as it plays well with others).

It's been too long…

    Not a word?

    Hey, Larry, I've only got access to the same as stuff as everyone else on this: KVR, CW press release, Google, etc. The rest is just my own speculation…

    Oh, and Larry, I got your last email. Sorry I've been slow to reply. Same reasons as why I haven't posted here much: too much work, not enough time at home, trains not running, dial up at my make shift midweek address, blah, blah. Term holidays in 2 weeks — hopefully there'll be some respite (shouldn't bag work too much though, they funded a 2nd ReMote SL 25 for me to cart around to my classes! The kids love DP & Rapture!)

    DZ looks pretty nimble though, eh?

    Yes.

    locked into Kinetic?

    No.

    I mean, can I use this new ‘sampler’

    My paranormal forces indicate me that yes, you can.

    ince it's sitting just below the loop controls I'm hoping we're talking about crossfade looping

    Crossfade looping it is.

    and opcodes to boot

    GUI only for DropZone. There's #define and /* */ on it tho.

    And, if I'm on the right track here, how does the crossfade control work? Samples from the the end? Milliseconds from the start or end?

    Milliseconds of crossfade. Compatible to <cough> SoundForge approach.

    Either way, a two element sfz machine with a waveform display would be welcome in the family

    Draggable start/end and loop/points, loop on/off, loop forward/backward/alternate, mapping display in the keyboard... and the most beautiful keyboard in the whole earth. Toy, yes. Nice

    Well it's not a typical audio editor more like a plug in editor with exportable loop set. Price point? Does look Very interesting indeed. And I assume it's really more a synth that an editor, Another fun tool for the masses? Any release date set?

    Hey Paradroid ;)+) I speculated you were still swamped, as well my free time is way to limited. It sure slows the down all the fun stuff.

    I speculated you were still swamped

    It's been really rude between the school production rehearsals (since when do I care about singing, dancing & corny jokes anyway?) and my regular train not running (an easy 65 min train ride has become a 2 1/2 hour bus epic ).

    Still, I'm always trying to snatch time for music making but unfortunately adventures in sfz have slowed to snail pace. That'll change though… The mind still wanders.

    As for DropZone, René just said everything I wanted to hear! I've been keen to see crossfade looping in an sfz equipped instrument for a while now — get all those seemingly ‘unloopable’ pads to flow smoothly without too much heavy mangling. That'll be a very fine tool for creating evolving soundscapes and get sustain out of sounds that would using hiccup and click if looped.

    Now if I can just get Peter from Zero-X to do an sfz export option for Seamless Looper…

    And how 'bout that interpolated waveform display, eh? WaveLab never looked that good.

    René, almost forgot:
    • Do add loop crossfading opcodes to the spec (per region is how we like it, you know that! )
    • Looking forward to block comments! Yay!
    • Spill the beans on #define (if you would be so kind). What are we talking here? Variables, samples, pathes?

    Just a preprocessor as in C/C++:

    // Paradroid Sick Dreams
    #define $A cc1
    #define $B cc2

    <region> sample=DaSickoOne.wav pitch_on$A=1200 volume_on$B=-20

    Saves a few searchandreplaces and cleans some stuff.

    Can you modulate the loop points and crossfade time in realtime?

    Will this be available standalone, or is it only available as part of Kinetic?

    Obviously, this might change without advice or previous notice, but as of today at noon, we have no plans to sell DropZone as a stand-alone product.

    Can you load sfz's in DropZone? Say, one of those Smartloops drumkits, or any of the ones that come with Dimension(Pro)?

    will it be in Project5 V3?

    something like this, but that edits audio like soundforge would be pretty wicked. like a built in VST audio editor for cleaning up, and adding effects to audio recorded in.

    just some Ideas...
