I actually use it as a VST plugin in Sonar occasionally.  But I don't think I've ever put a whole piece of music together just using FL, though with the improvements they've made in the last few versions it would probably be possible.  But pretty much all I do is MIDI -- don't know how it is for recording.

I tired a demo once before 10 was released, just couldn't get on with it, maybe cus I'm so used to Sonar, some of their plug-in effects that come with it are nice though.

I have free lifetime updates for FL. i don't really use it , But I will say me personally I know more artist's/producers that have made tracks on FL than I know of people that use CW.. For the Money nothing will compare to FL. and nothing is as good as FL's step sequencer, It is the best scratch pad out there.
A few Artist some might know that use FL, Deadmau 5, Laid back luke, And a slew of hip hop producers from 9th wonder who's produced Jay Z's album to Timberland, Although they use other programs too. I thought it would be worth mentioning , Like I said most have heard of of the producers I 've mention.
So what makes a program not professional? Making Money is a professional as you can get. I see it as if you rub 2 sticks and stones to make music, and if someone will buy it then you have the correct recipe . Fruity loops by far is the best Daw for the Buck! As mentioned good for electronic music.. I wouldn't use it to record live band's . But an awesome scratch Pad..And great as rewired into Sonar..

If you are familiar with Pogo's work (he did a mashup of Alice In Wonderland that has had over a million hits), there is a video of him doing the same kind of thing with Lord Of The Rings using FL Studio here:

i would use it as a scratch pad if it were a 64 bit program, but that isn't happening anytime soon.  then again, i still prefer Project 5 to FL10 but i no longer use p5 due to its deadness, lack of multi-core awareness and not being x64.  people usually yell at me for being stupid about my hating on 32 bit programs, but i'm trying to streamline my system by getting rid of all the separate Vst folders one has to have on their systems for x64/x86/x86jBridged etc. and the multiple listings for each plugin.  and FL10 seems pretty particular about where folders are located, as if it assumes FL10 is everybody's #1 DAW just because it's installed.  once Kore goes x64 i will never have another 32 bit audio application on my system ever again.  that said, FL is a pretty advanced software package, and will probably actually use it in a few years once they get their act together with creating a fully 64 bit program that runs on today's machines

It is now in FL 10 but apparently there is a couple of applications where things are not running smoothly such as East West applications. However I am sure that will be ironed out soon in an update. Its only out a couple of weeks.

I dont know why they are trying to get rid of the pattern blocks. They are still there in the background in FL studio 10 but are going to be fazed out altogether in the next couple of versions.

I have Sonar PE 7 and will upgrade in the summer when I feel Cakewalk have got X1 a bit more sorted out.  I will also upgrade my Reason 4 to Reason 5. However I am seriously considering getting FL studio 10. Like Reason it seems to be good at getting ideas quickly together which I dont find in Sonar PE 7. However for mixing and for audio of course I would rely on Sonar to finish off tracks.

Thats pretty much how I work now. I get a song started in Reason and finish it off in Sonar.

I've only used a demo at different times on 3 or 4 occasions. I never really found it appealing in any way.

im cusious as to why you would use reason to get your ideas down..i have no experience with reason so i dont really know..but your way of creating music i find interesting..i do it all in the box on sonar x1.so id like to hear why its easier in reason..and is reason the free download one..or the honor system thing?..thanks

Charlie- To answer your question. I bought Reason and Sonar at the same time. Well within two weeks of each other. I found it easier to get up and running with Reason. Its very easy to get to grips with and the Redrum Drum device is very easy to get drums working in it. I just found it very intuitive. Sonar completely baffled me when I first opened the application up. I just saw millions of buttons everywhere and a cluttered interface. Of course Sonar can do so much more than Reason. Reason cant record audio or support VSTs. Its an application that works best when coupled with another application unless you are recording purely instrumental electronic music.

However its very easy to start getting ideas down in Reason. You can get drums up and running with the Redrum or Dr Rex which is now Dr Octoplex. I also prefer the synths in Reason. Overall the instruments in Reason are great. I was able to get recording almost immediately.

Sonar though has an infinitely better console view. Also its track view is far better as well. So I got into the habit of getting tracks up and running in Reason and then transferring them to Sonar where I could add external VSTs record my vocals and edit them and mix everything down in Sonars console view.

My workflow was kinda dictated to me.

Now with Sonar X1 it maybe be easier for me to do a whole project in Sonar now. The interface certainly looks a lot less cluttered and I do welcome that. I am certainly interested in using it sometime during the summer.

I am not sure if there is a Reason Demo. Rarely go on their site as their forum doesnt compare to this one. This is the best forum for any of the DAWs out there at the moment.

Reason is great but the lack of VSt support kills its. I mean what day in age were they thinking ya its cool its all in one but come on you have to have vst and its a shame not to use VST since there are so many great options.

If Cakewalk can implement some of  the midi parts and editing from FL Studio and Reason then i can see so many people moving to Sonar. But only time will tell.

Im still baffled that i cant set my TV to whole and have my PRV as a separate settings its things like this that no one from Reason or FL studio would ever come to Sonar. As soon as they start in one minute they will hit BRICK WALL I think they don't have enough people beta test the software to test it out and give ideas as to why not GIVE THE USER OPTIONS Why are we locking the dam thing ????

They need to have people who produce House, Trance, Techno ELECTRONICS MUSIC to realize how we work OUR WORKFLOW

whether they like it or not Things are slowly shifting every artist now a days are gearing towards some type of electronic sounds and beats. I feel like the more Electronic artist start using sonar the more popular Sonar will be. But that's just my 0.02c

FL10 is not a 64 bit DAW, it merely has a bridge that allows the use of 64 bit plugins

Which is pretty much solves all the memory issues that make people want to go to 64bit. Why do you need the actual program to be 64bit?

I would think if the host was 32 bit, even if it could use 64 bit programs, it still couldn't address more than 4 gig's of ram.

That's just how 32 bit programs work right?

Oh right, my thinking was that if you were running a 64 bit OS, that the bridge could use more than 4gb if the vst wrapper was run in its own process.

    From the FL Website:

64 Bit plugin wrapper - FL Studio now hosts 64 Bit VST plugins for access to unlimited memory.

@mattox84 to answer your question . . . i am really sick of having so many different folders of Vsts . . . my 64 bit folder, my 32 bit folder to be used with 32 bit apps, my 32 bit folder of plugins that Bitbridge works with, the folder of 32 bit plugins where jBridge must be used, and the folder of plugins that have been jBridged.  it's a mess.  and then all the 32 bit versions of Native Instruments plugins (that ARE 64 bit, but since Kore isn't 64 bit yet) that i want Kore to recognize, and then, when i want to choose a plugin to work, the dropdown menu just shows like 3 or 4 versions of the same plugin, indistinguishable from each other.  Massive    Massive    Massive    Absynth    Absynth    Absynth.   i realize that this must be difficult for people clinging to 32 bit to understand or empathize with, but it is a huge PITA for me.
