Anyone know anything about the group called The Beatles?

I hear they are all the rage with the kids.

I think they sing a song about holding hands.

I think it's a double entree or something.

Hey Bapu... Yes...I've heard of the Beatles. Got it off the Science Channel...it's a gaggle of entomologists teaching beetles to sing and play instruments. I hear they're non-profit but not totally sure. Carry on....

Actually I would consider myself an expert, I know this is a joke thread but I am being serious.  I have just finished Cyn Lennnons book on John and I finished a book on George, all in the last week and a couple of months ago I finished one on McCartney, funny there are no books about Ringo!!!

I would est I have read somwhere between 100 and 300 books on The Beatles in my life and that may be a conservative figure!!!

    Oh Ben.

Saying you're an expert is bad for business.

First you have to prove it.

Secondly, you'll never convince the skeptics that you are an expert.

Maybe reconsider and say "I really like The Beatles a lot!".

Yea but Bapu, that's the point I notice in this world too many people not having any confidence or belief in themselves and the ones who do get cut down.  I have studied The Beatles since I was 10 and I am now 35 so a long time and what I mean by studied is their recordings, the process and the stories, I never said I knew everything but I still consider myself an expert, case in point, in the Cyn Lennon book, she states that Lennon wrote All My Loving for her and in fact everybody should know it was Macca but I cross checked just in case because it's Cyn Lennon and she should know.  My point I donn't make idle boosts and claims I can back it up,  don't woryy I know you are yanking my chain.

    Peace Ben

I very much doubt that Lennon himself would call anyone who's read  300 books about himself and his group an expert. A groupie, more likely.

I think he'd also tell that self-proclaimed "expert" that he is totally missing the point, and that clinging on to such small talk and worshiping his underwear means he just doesn't "get it" - what he and the Beatles were all about.

Knowing all that stuff just means that you have a lot of time to waste and a good memory. But it doesn't make you "an expert" in anything.  You're just a guy who read books that were available for everyone to read, and that countless others have read.

George Martin, Geoff Emerick - these guys are experts. And they probably couldn't care less what's the name of Mimi's first goldfish or the name of Klaus Voorman's first teacher. That's usually the stuff editors use to sell magazines to hysteric teenage girls.

Of course, later, it all becomes part of books, their history is written 300 hundred times, but basically, knowing who and why Lennon wrote this or that song for doesn't mean you really get it.

Claiming that you are right and that his ex-wife is wrong... Man, that's probably what he told her. And I guess she wasn't "expert" or groupie enough to cross check in every book written about the Beatles.

But I encourage you to write to her and to set her straight about her own life and her own time with the man. Tell her you're an expert, I'm sure she'll listen and will beg you to enlighten her. ;)

My, everyone got real unfriendly all of a sudden.

Ben, if your self image thing is working for you, God's speed. I wish I was just as positive about my life accomplishments. The only set of books I've read is the hard covers of the Tom Clancy books.

But remember, when you're over for dinner, keep your elbows off the table. We're all guests here. (A guy from Arkansas should have said that)

As for the Beatles, I have an original pressing of Rubber Soul (in new "improved" stereophonic sound) spinning on the turntable at this moment. Man it sounds really strange by today's artificial standards. No sheet of ice or chest thumping bass, just lots of juicy midrange. My digital copy sounds much different.

    Regards, John

Yeah, went out for a smoke after I wrote this and thought it sounded harsh.

Ben (and I can appreciate his enthusiasm for what it is) has a tendency to make bold claims and to justify them by saying it's all about self-confidence - which really isn't. And if one is ready to make such claims, against all commonly accepted etiquette, I guess he's ready to assume it.

yea not much on etique, rain when i made that claim its half jest but i said also i had read technical books about the recording process, also songwriting facts so not just the underwear stuff.

when i say i'm an expert, i don't mean i know everything in fact i'm learning stuff all the time about the beatles.

i would call what i do musicology, i mean i am academic albeit unemployed but i am waiting on a phd application and i have done a bit of history at uni so reading and gathering information is what i do.

    peace

oh and amp fixer yea im confident in my own skin ive had to learn to be, ive always been this way, in fact it lennon who taught me this

Fame is fleeting for Skiffle bands like these.  They'll probably be forgotten very soon.

Hopefully, they didn't forget to keep their day jobs.

    Hi,

Ok ... now for a little relaxation.

I would love to see the BBC stop being so ****ed up and not releasing the stuff they have on The Beatles. And then, I would like to see one rich mothert'r get off his gun and maybe allow "Let It Be" to be released again, in a cleaner version, maybe even remastered. .... but nooooo ... he's gonna keep it closed until the Beatles are all dead and he won't have to give Yoko a single penny!

"Let it Be" is massive ... it really shows 4 people ... and the playing on the rooftop is magnificent, and shows what 4 people can do when they set their minds to it!

The BBC still has material they won't release. Included in these are The Beatles Christmas Shows, which was something that was done for their fan club and the last show is pretty much all John and Yoko only, but it's still a nice show ... there are some very funny bits in here, and it shows the humor, and where it came from, and pretty much explains why George quietly got involved with a film company that he funded all the way to his last days ... and they made a whole bunch of folks well known and appreciated.

Sometimes, we don't even know how much the Beatles gave back, but of all 4 of them, George gave the most. And you have to work hard to find the sucker in 2 of those movies ... really hard and good luck finding him!

Sorry ... I'm am now off my sopa box!

In the end, we can learn more from everything else we don't know about these folks and how real they were ... and how offending the whole star thing really was in the end, and had nothing to do with any of the work they did.

We should do the same thing for the CHB ... but not sure that having Karen stop by and call everyone idiots is really the only thing that we need to see! Maybe she didn't like the songs! Who knows ... it's a magical mystery that needs a tour!

As a wise Guy once stated from his holy chapala ... none of the hits, none of the time ... prevents you from becoming just another turkey in the middle of all the other turkeys!
