Anyone know how to "install" Dim Pro content to a different drive?

Greetings,
I asked about this a few days ago but I think I was not understood too well.
Someone mentioned a fix by some regedit fun and said the time it will take will teach me a lesson about installing it right the 1st time.
So let me explain...
When I try to install X2, there does not appear to be a way to custom install in such a way that the content from Dimension Pro (or session drummer etc.) can be on a different drive  than the program.
I am hoping to have Sonar, Win 7 (64 bit) etc. on 1 drive. Read/Write audio files on a 2nd drive and, 3rd, load soft synth content on a 4rd drive.
I have gone through this a few times and it looks like Cakewalk will not allow you to install to a different drive.
So, is this really the case? If I want to have this on a different drive (and forgive me for saying this but I think this is actually the proper/best way of doing things) I must find some way of playing in the registry and hope I do not screw anything up? lol

If so, if Cakewalk has decided we cannot "install" things where we wish.... can anyone direct me to the best regedit solution?

Thanks for any help.

When you start installing the X2 application - after the screen where you input your name and your X2 serial number you will next see a screen that lets you choose between "Basic" or 'Advanced" installation. Choose "Advanced" - then you can select which disk to put Dimension Pro.

The registry key you want to look at for where the Dim Pro path to the multi-samples is:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cakewalk Music Software\dp

If you navigate to the above registry key, you will see 'Multisamples Folder', and that is where Dim Pro looks for its samples and such.

IF you are going to change this path, you may want to consider backing up the Registry, and perhaps separately writing down the original path pointed to by the Multisamples Folder key.  (you could just type it or paste it back in, should you goof up on specifying a valid new path and want to revert, rather than restoring your entire Registry).

Anyways, IF you want to move the multisamples, I suggest you COPY the folder and paste it to its new location, followed by then editing the registry to point to the new location, followed by trying out Dim Pro, PRIOR to deleting the original multisamples folder.

I do not remember if once this is done whether or not you have to refresh the browser in Dim Pro to attach to the new location.

Anyways, the above is where the folder is pointed to in the registry.

    Good luck,

Nope, that is not an option. This is the reason for my post.

Thanks Bob. Hope I don't screw up. I wonder why Cakewalk has decided to not allow this? Everything I read tells me this is the best way to do things...with sound libraries/samples that is, why would they change this? In the past I was always able to do this. Never did this with X1. I am curious if that is where the change began or with X2? Hmm? Anyway, thanks for the info (1st time around as well). I think I have found the answer, it's not me. lol. They took this option away. Ya know what's wild?? I have not even installed Dim Pro. I am still dicking with the 4 X2 files. Within those 4, somewhere, is an entire library of Dim Pro samples. I just don't understand. When I get to the Dim Pro setup files, I wonder if they give me an option where to put stuff? And if it does, will it mess things up if I put those sounds in a different place from the ones buried in the X2 setup files?? Too strange.
Ok, here goes messin' with the registry.

I had the same issue.  Tried changing the registry as explained above and to my surprise it didn't work.  After some web searching, I found a utility for Dim Pro that changes the sample path. (I think the program just automatically changes the same registry setting)  It didn't work.  I finally gave up and left the samples where they installed.  All my other sample libraries (Kontakt, BFD, etc) installed fine to a separate drive.  Kind of annoying about Dim Pro, but it hasn't caused me any problems so far.

This is the most current info about moving CW synths via registry edits http://forum.cakewalk.com/fb.ashx?m=2673527 It is not necessary to alter the "Contents Folder" if you do not want to do so, moving the "Multisamples Folder" relocates the bulk of the synth's disk usage.

I believe the TweakDimension does not work with current DimPro installs.

This is all good and I don't want to hijack the thread but can someone tell me how to re-intall DIM PRO?  Don't know what I did but when I enter the reg number, it keeps telling me it is invalid.  I think I tried to move the .DLL for plugin management (which started this mess) reasons and now I can't reinstall it.

Why do the BAKERS make this so complicated?

I moved my multisamples, and they live on a different drive altogether than from the original install.

For whatever the worth, the Dim Pro Multisamples Folder is only 5 GB in size.

    Hey all,
Well, I finally got to the actual Dim Pro setup files and everything was as expected. I had the option to load samples wherever I wish. So, this problem is...well, solved.
However, I am quite curious. If the Dimension Pro setup files have the samples inside (as one would expect) then, what were the samples within the four X2 setup files? The samples that were called Dimension Pro Multisamples?
    Anyway, all good here.
    Thanks for the help.

The "loops and one shots" are a collection of audio files that are not associated with any synth. The majority of the files are the old Beatscape synth library.
