Anyone know what a mediaid.BIN file is? Not CW related but still curious. *solved*

As the title says I created a Cakewalk bundle of a project for backup to my E drive and this mediaid.BIN file seems to have been created as well. I have no idea what that is. Could someone explain what this is and what I should be doing with it? Thanks, guys.

Are you sure Cakewalk created it? Google the file name, it looks like a Windows 7 backup file. Not gonna comment about using bundles.

Well enough to post. I see you are back from school is the the summer break? BTW, as I indicated above the file was created by the Windows 7 backup utility.

That would make sense. The file extension is not associated with any program. The .bin extension usually means the file contains binary data (i.e. not human readable text) and would only be accessed by the program that created it, not by manually trying to open it.

The file is place in the root directory of the drive that contains the backup. It is used by the Win7 backup utility. It does not contains the data that was backed-up, that should be in another directory on the drive. If you deleted the backup, you can remove the MediaID.bin file, otherwise leave it alone. I do remember a day when placing user files, like your cwb in the root was frowned upon. Better to keep your own stuff in folders. I am sure the technical reasons (filesystem limitations on the number of entries in the root) are no more but it does keep things a little neater.

That is pretty easy to fix. Create a "Cakewalk Projects" directory on the other drive (i.e. the one that does not have the OS and SONAR app on it). Open the existing project and use "Save-as" to save the project into a new directory under "Cakewalk Projects" making sure to have "Copy all audio with project" checked. This will create per-project folders with the audio in the correct place. When you are done and verified, delete all the old stuff.
