I suspect that no one who has tried it ever experienced anything worth making a video or tutorial about.

The last time I did, it planted the MIDI clip way out beyond where I expected to find it, and wasn't even close to what I expected based on the V-Vocal clip. -Susan

I just happened to try it on a short audio clip last weekend. The results weren't even in the ball park...........so maybe I do need a tutorial video. JV

I haven't tried it and, frankly, haven't considered using it but I suspect that its only use would be on a single, mono timbral source...Not with chords or such...

The reason I ask is that I am a keyboard player. I want to sing the notes for guitar solos into v-vocal then convert them to midi to use with a guitar sample after I pich correct them. I got the notes in my head but I can't play guitar even a little. I am horizontally challenged. hehe

Are you talking about trying to capture pitch bends? In my experience, V-Vocal can't even accurately convert a series of fixed pitch notes to MIDI, much less get the bends right. I think you will get better results more quickly by just playing the part from the keyboard with the guitar patch you ultimately intend to use, and adding bends with a combination of real-time entry by pitchwheel and manual tweaking of controllers.

I got the notes in my head but I can't play guitar even a little. I am horizontally challenged. hehe Its very simple to use, but what you are trying to do is probably not going to work the way you want. 1) Record your audio clip 2) Select the clip 3) Right-click the clip and select Create V-Vocal Clip 4) In V-Vocal, select the Pitch-to-MIDI button (the music note at the lower left of the V-Vocal editor) and drag and drop it on a MIDI track. The results will depend on the quality of the track you're converting.

The results will depend on the quality of the track you're converting Not based on my attempts to use it. In an effort to make sure I wasn't asking for too much of it to understand the pitches I sang, I recorded a dry sin wav C major Scale on quarter notes at 100bpm. Then I used the v-vocal pitch to midi on that. Useless. A few of the notes were right - none of them were "in time" - many had crazy pitch bends added to them even though the audio recording of the synth line I put in was with no modulation and a very basic monophonic sound. Seriously, I couldn't find a single phrase, no matter how strictly recorded, taht resembled itself when pitch to midi was done with it. I was really disappointed in a feature that I though held some promise for speeding up some basic stuff or just tryhing to quickly rouch in a melody by voice so I'd remember what I did. Sad.

Should have known the feature was some half baked afterthought. My buddy has a little device for 80 bucks that he bought that follows pitch to the letter and converts it to midi. You would think a product like V-Vocal would at least to that much. Thanks for all the replies. Anybody know of any kind of plugin that does this? Preferably a free one. Cakewalk is becoming a money pit.

I have defo seen a clip on this somewhere, I'll see if I can track it down. If said guitar sample involves a soft synth can't you just play with a MIDI keyboard if you're already working it out?

I tried something similiar with similar results, using perfectly tuned synth patches and simple melodic lines. Verdict: Not ready for prime time.

If said guitar sample involves a soft synth can't you just play with a MIDI keyboard if you're already working it out? I can articulate a guitar bending and vibrato way better with my voice. Waaayyyy diferent than a keyboard. I can spot a keyboard guitar in seconds because of the quality of the bends and vibrato. They aare too clean and perfect.
