Anyone still use Mini Disc? (vs audio recorder)

 
My old player/recorder finally packed in and I bought a Zoom H4n to replace it. I liked the sound of the Mini Disc player better, it added a warmth and soft compression to the recording.
I also tried using the H4n as an audio interface with a laptop and it does not make a good interface at all. Very brittle and bright sound and only 16 bit).  

I have a Mini Disc connected to my mixer.  I use it for working capturing ideas  and for the occasional recording of jams with friends.  Here's an example, of a recent live recording a song with a friend of mine:

I like the idea of doing live to 2 track recording.  I forces you to make decisions on the fly and live with the results.  The more you do it - the more likely you'll get better results. 

N W Smith, I have to agree, I find myself doing more live recording these days. It forces me to improve my performance.

I enjoyed your song and it demonstrates (Norrie) that Mini Disc - as Mike points out ATRAC - was/is actually a great algorithm and MD was a great format/idea (overshadowed  and replaced by MP3). 

I did a little research at Wikipedia and was surprised to find that Sony has as recently as 2006 improved on ATRAC introducing ATRC3plus and ATRAC3 Advanced Lossless which they still use in some devices.

But comparing my live takes onto mini disc to those of an up to date 'Zoom' brand audio recorder (recording in 24bit / 96kHz) I find that the MD really holds it's own and I'm sad it's broken!

Still use minidisc for my one man band tracks. It works.
