Anyone use Roland br800 Portastudio?

I am interested in this unit because it takes big SD cards and claims to work as a DAW interface also.

Yes, I realize Sonar can run on laptops but my laptop is clogged up with crap and I like the thought of a dedicated little recorder that is reasonably fuutre proofed and will last forever (solid state).  The fact that track editing is impossible is inconsequential. That's what Sonar is for.

My question is whether the unit "plays well" with Sonar X1 and dhave current owners had any "problem after purchase" comoplaints with the br800?

Music Equipment:

Cakewalk, Izotope, Propellerheads, Wavelab, Yamaha guitars, Roland keyboards
Sonar X1, Gateway DX4831 (i7 860, NVidia GT320, 64bit, 8gig)

Looks like a handy unit, and I can fully understand the desire to have a dedicated hardware device. I used to own a Boss BR-8 when they first came out, and I loved it.

Sorry though - I can't comment if it plays well with Sonar or not. It's not in the Control Surface list, but by the looks of it, it is suppose to be installed as a Mackie Control (based on this thread I found: http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?m=2133719). Since it comes with a version of Sonar 8 - I would suspect it should play nice with Sonar X1 as well.

Problems after purchase? It's Roland/Boss isn't it. Usually their Tanks - but I can understand why you would ask

Don't fix it in the mix ... Fix it in the take!

Thanks for the advice guys.  It seems that most people prefer the Zoom units and that the DAW integration for the BR800 is not that great. Data transfer appears to be a pain in the ass also. A shame...
