Anyone using Cakewalk/Edirol UA-25EX on Win8.1?

Anyone using Cakewalk/Edirol UA-25EX on Win8.1?

I got a fanless, passive-cooled SSD laptop - perfect for tracking - with Win8.1 on it

But the drivers from Roland do not install.
And if I do get them installed using a trick, the audio in Sonar freezes randomly (VUs don't move, audio flatlines, sometimes digital noise)

I found one thread here but it dates around 2013.

Anyone using this combination?

    Yes. I have Cakewalk / Roland UA-25 EX working perfectly on Win 8.1 x64.
    It works fine with both Cakewalk Artist (latest version) and Studio One v3.
    In fact it plays well with just about any audio application.
     
    Have you got the latest drivers (V 1.01) ?
     
    Download them from Roland's website -

    Make sure you plug into a USB2 port (instead of USB 3).

    Yes I have the latest, from rolandus.com, downloaded last night.
     
    I think I found the problem.
     
    I also had my new OctaCapture drivers installed, so I now tried uninstalling OctaCapture...
    ...and after that the UA-25EX drivers installed!
     
    Then I re-installed the OctaCapture, and now I have the same effect as before, namely, using the UA-25EX causes Sonar to freeze as I described above.
     
    Some time back I also had the little brother, the UA-25, and it's drivers also would not co-exist with the UA-25EX drivers. It was either one or the other.
     
    I like the UA-25EX for it's 105dB S/N ratio and -60dB mic sensitivity.
    And I now got myself two OctaCaptures for recording full bands.
    So it looks like I have to re-install drivers every time I change interfaces!
     
    Bummer.
     
    Is this a general thing with Roland interface drivers? That they interfere with each other?
     
    On my main PC I have drivers from 3 different Tascams, a PreSonus and the UA-25EX, all working fine together.
    I must see what happens when I install the OctaCapture drivers - although I got the OctaCaptures really for my mobile rig, not mix/mastering work.

    Glad you found the root cause.
    Clearly there is a conflict between both sets of drivers.
    In your Windows Control Panel > Sounds , do you have the 'Let applications take exclusive control' thingy enabled ?
    Other than that, it may be worth a support call to Roland (although the UA-25 EX is legacy hardware now, the OctaCapture isn't).
    Over here in the UK, I have found Roland support to be excellent.
     
    Yes, I love my little UA-25EX interface too, it's great.
