Anyone using Lemur to control Sonar? [SOLVED WORKING PERFECTLY!]

Hi Everyone.
Searching the forum as best I could I see this question has been asked in the past without much response,  but  since the release of Lemur for Android I thought others may have taken it up.  Is anyone using either Lemur app as a control surface for Sonar? If so,  are you using midi over WiFi or OSC?  Is there any latency over WiFi?  I  would love to hear your experiences.

EDIT: I have since purchased Lemur and it is brilliant.  See post below.

Thanks!

you didn't mention "successfully"...

I've been wrestling with Lemur for a while now - I've been more focused on using it with Kontakt, but I have played around with Sonar as well. Thus far I'd have to say both have been challenging. If I find the magic for Sonar I will certainly post it here!

Hey Bill.  Thanks very much for the response.

Since posting I actually jumped in and bought Lemur.  I don't know if you have found it,  but is there is a Sonar template in the user Library.  I had it downloaded and up and running in 20mins, and it is awesome. Complete control of Sonar!
Below is a link to the template.  I am running a galaxy tab 10.5,  so I had to resize it slightly in Lemur editor to get full screen. I think the original resolution is for an ipad.  There is also a pdf in the Sonar template download with excellent set up instructions. I think one of the secrets is to use loopbe30 virtual midi,  which by chance I already had on my system, so I probably saved myself some time there.
Let me know how you go with Kontakt as well.  I can't stop smiling - I must have tried every remote app on earth with Sonar prior to finding this:)

Lemur is probably the most versatile midi/sysex/osc controller ever made. It's a shame it's so complicated as a result, but loading templates isn't too hard and there's a huge library already.

I can't believe I had never come across it before Sanderxpander!  I am pretty thrilled with it and very glad there was a template for Sonar amongst the 300 Ableton templates:) .  The Lemur editor also seems very good but I wouldn't have liked to have to start from scratch.

Well it used to be a hardware box that was pretty expensive. It's only been on iPad for a few years I think and even less on Android. As an app it's still not cheap and kind of an investment to learn. But if you need versatility it trumps anything I can think of. There's a whole bunch of creative fx possible too using the physics engine. Couple it with something like Reaktor and the possibilities are endless.

Hey Bill.  Thanks very much for the response.

No, thank you! I picked Lemur up a while back, and there was no Sonar template, but at the time I was more interested in using if for Kontakt. Had not searched their library for Sonar support - and now I don't have to<G>! Much appreciated! (I also have LoopBe, so I'm all set!)

Yes -  I am looking forward to EXPLORING.  It is certainly quite a bit dearer than other apps,  but I am pretty happy with the return:)

Great Bill!   I imagine it would be a daunting task starting from scratch without a template. Loopbe30 is very handy.  I have been using it to run DMXIS programs and to sync Traktor to Ableton live for a while now.  A great little program that just works. I haven't quite used all 30 midi connections yet though:)

Haha -  not exclusively theatre.  More often a rock cabaret show kinda guy,  but a pretty big dmx user:).  Have you checked out DMXIS?  It's a DMX controller that you can insert as a vst plugin with a small USB breakout box. Simple but pretty cool.

Indeed we will swap stories!

BTW I spent a few hours updating the Sonar Lemur template today.  A couple of the buttons no longer functioned in the new Sonar,  several needed relabelling,  and I have made the layout a little easier to read.  If you are interested let me know the type and resolution of the tablet you are using (shown when you push the cog in the right corner of the lamur screen) and I'l send you a copy when it's done.

Thanks sooo much for all of this information... While I'm sending all descretionary dimes to Bernie right now, this has just jumped up to the top of my "GET!" list.  I've watched a lot of folks over at V.I. Control wanking on their lemurs for orchestrations but... it would be nice to get for sonar...

Templates... if anyone comes up with additional cool sonar temps, can we send um in to Lemur so we can compete more with the billion Abletons?

Re: Anyone using Lemur to control Sonar? 2016/03/14 13:08:09 (permalink)
For anyone interested in trying Lemur as a remote for Sonar.
All I have done is adapt the original free Lemackie2 ipad template from the Lemar library to use on a smartphone (Galaxy s5, but you can easily resize it to suit) with just the functions that are useful for tracking. Whoever designed the original template has done all of the hard work.  The larger template is pretty much the same as the Lemur library template, but resized for the Samsung Galaxy TabS 10.5 with some non-functioning buttons removed and bit easier to read. A couple of screenshots
Phone: (thanks to auto resizing that is one huge phone:)
" />
 Tablet

The only issue I found with the large template is that the 'view' buttons will only access the parameters of the first module in the prochannel on any given track.

Excellent instructions for setting Lemur up are in the Sonar Lemackie 2 Manual from the original templates.

I have put the templates and files on dropbox for anyone who wants them.

The only issue I found with the large template is that the 'view' buttons will only access the parameters of the first module in the prochannel on any given track.

While with amazing customization in the interface, do not forget that Lemackie is using the very same Sonar side plug-in as MCU Pro, SSL Nucleus, X-Touch, TouchDaw, etc...
So you get the same features and the same problems.

I believe you Az because you know your stuff, but I have to say that the Lemur dameon has been faultless in connecting on both systems I am using it with. I had endless trouble with rtpmidi and touchdaw on the same rigs. Not sure why. I really like the Lemur editor as well. What we need is a genius like you to get amongst it. Az control meets Lemur:)

I had Lemur set up perfectly, all running really well. Now I have encountered a problem that I don't know how to fix. Every time I press stop either in Sonar or on Lemur all the faders jump to the middle, kind of like a reset. Any ideas greatly welcome as obviously I cannot mix anything at the moment

Hi Numbhead.  Have you tried deleting and re-adding the mackie control preset for Lemur in Sonar control surface preferences? Just double check your midi i/O preferences for the MC preset, Lemur, and Lemur Dameon as well to make sure you don't have a midi feedback loop. It sounds as though the mackie control plugin is seeing midi reset data that it shouldn't, which makes me suspect the midi routing may have gone askew.

AZCtrl is supporting OSC directly now. I went cheeper way (TouchOSC), but I guess that should work with Lemur without problem.
