do you have an .ins file you could send me? I just want basic functions...play record rewind forward undo and the faders to control tracks.

Maybe an explanation of how you have yours set up, and how you did it.

    Thanks!

You don't have to have any particular files to make it work.

Just plug it in to a midi port, and set the peavey to the ( Ibeleive) default setting of faders and mutes.

Right click over whatever you want to control in Sonar, like master volume, or track 2 volume, etc. Then go to "remote control"

Check learn mode in the box that comes up. Then move the fader on the peavey. Then click OK.

After that, the fader will be controlled by the peavey. Even if you move the track or renumber the tracks, the fader will stay with it. This is unlike the Motormix, which can only handle contigous tracks.

With the peavey, you can control the master on fader 16, bus 1 on fader 15, and trrack 5 on fader 1 all at the same time.

The drawback is that you cannot expect motorized faders. Or transport control. And panning is kind of weird.

The AJ transport that makes your multi media keyboard control transport can help augment the peavey.

The peavey works well for tracking (" please turn up the guitar") but is a litttle problematic for mixing. If you mix the whole song in one session, no problem. But if you want to come back to a song after going to some other song, you will really miss the flying faders.

I am thinking of keeping this in addition to my Motormix.

Ahh, I see. I wanted the faders (I understood they weren't moving, but also wanted to have the transport controls (linked to the buttons at the bottom).
I guess I'll have to convince my wife that I HAVE TO have a Mackie Control...right after the 2nd monitor that I also NEED...and the other Telecaster...and an 88 key piano weight midi controller...and...

If you already have the peavey, you can use the mulimedia keyboard do the transport control. Search to forum for the free software drivers. Works great.

Or you can assign buttons on the bottom to be transport controls. Sonar can be conntroled by MIDI, and the Peavey emits Midi that is apropriate to control Sonar. It is covered under "Key Bindings" the Sonar help file.

But if you decide to get a GOOD controller, take a hard look at the CM labs Motormix. This is a pro level product. Well integrated with Sonar. Made of metal, and built well. Get it on ebay used if money is tight.

I also use a Peavey PC-1600X, and find it odd that Cakewalk didn't include this unit in their default definitions for hardware control surfaces.

There is a great resource of configuration files for this unit, and the older PC-1600, here:

I can do a lot of things with SONAR (I'm a long time CW user...started with 2.0) but I couldn't program the Peavey buttons to send the right transport controls to SONAR..
In fact before this thread, I had the Peavey all ready to go on Ebay. I'll have to give it another shot.

I was hoping someone else had done the work already and could shoot me a file (lazy) so I wouldn't have to "f" with it anymore..

Why CW left the PC1600x out of their default definitions, who knows?

Thanks for the link, and the other help.

Yeah...I got rid of mine a while ago on ebay - primarily because the lack of motorization made things wierd to control to me.

I now have a Contour Shuttle for transport control - looking at getting a Tranzport for wireless control from my drum kit or from my mics - and maybe a Behringer BCF thingy, which seems to have some good Sonar reviews.
