Anyone using a USB turntable into SONAR

 I've got a Numark TTUSB turntable to do some vinyl to CD transfers. Does anyone know of a way to tell SONAR to look to the USB output of the turntable as the input of a track? Thanks! Earl

    A friend of mine just bought a Sony USB turntable, We found out it does not come with drivers. His Windows 7 laptop seemed to recognize it and it works OK with the Sound Forge  Software that it came with.

     He called because it keeps wigging out on him and he couldn't monitor the sound while recording. We eventually found a very well hidden toggle for monitoring but it keeps shutting off every time you open the software. 
    Point I'm making is USB interfaces that don't come with real drivers are always lacking a control panel and stability.  It's doubtful that Sonar will recognize it unless it comes with drivers you install. 
    The Sony software works great for what he was doing so hopefully yours came with something you can use too.
    Sonar is not what I would use for vinyl transfers anyhow. Wave Lab or Sound Forge have the right  tools that make the job easy. His software allows you to play the side through and it automaticly chops it into individual  tracks as well as perform clean up of pop's and crackles, normalize etc. A one shot deal. It will save as wave or hi res  MP3 too. There's a free trial version if you go to the Sound Forge web site.

    another thing you need to consider is the RIAA EQ curve that you will need to convert the incoming audio from the turntable into regular EQ'd wave.

    most turntables will come with their own software and that software will have the RIAA EQ applied to it.  so what might be a better option is to use the turntables software to record the wave file then import that into sonar.

    The USB turntable I have  (a cheapie $50 model) internally has the RIAA equalizer before it converts it to the USB output.   Audacity came with the turntable, although I have other "recording" software I use for recordings such as this.   I save all recordings as "full fidelity" wav files and then if I want something else such as an MP3 I do the conversion with Goldwave.

    I've never tried Sonar for this but I suspect as noted there is no ASIO or WDM driver and the device would probably never be recognized.

    the ones I've seen did not have the RIAA conversion until the software, so I guess that's something you need to verify before trying to record.  sounds like they're not consistent in their implementation.

    I would also believe there is not a WDM or ASIO driver - you probably need to use MME (or ASIO4ALL)

    Read the reviews, that's pretty much the experience I had with it. I wound up just running the RCA outs from the turntable into my mixer->soundcard->SONAR. Sounded much better that the direct USB route into Audacity.

    Using Audacity didn't allow any gain adjustments on input, so everything came in too hot. I couldn't get SONAR to play nice  (very "stuttery" when it did work, and sounded like a$$)with the USB input, even after switching to MME and disabling my Delta 1010lt cards.

    IIRC, one of the Cakewalk DX EQ's has a preset for RIAA....

    It came with software to record with but it requires an iTunes account (which I have) but the studio computer is not allowed on the internet. So, I'm going with the audio outs (rca's). I know that'll work in SONAR. :)

    A colleague bought one that also came with Audacity.
    The drivers may show up as 'generic USB audio device'. Make sure that Sonar is not set to ASIO, but to WDM. You should then be able to choose the turntable as the input.
