Applying Controller Data
Hi all. Showing my thorough lack of Midi knowledge, I'm trying to introduce a 'sweep' effect on a 5 note chord using pitch wheel data. I tried various methods last night but none of them worked. Due to the chord voicing, each individual note needs a different pitch bend I tried: Assigning each note to a different Midi channel, then defining each channel under the edit menu as a 'new' wheel type with the appropriate Midi channel. I could then access each channel separately in the controller lane and set up my pitch bends there. Result: all 5 notes would respond only to channel 1 data. I tried: Cloning the midi track 4 times then editing their note & controller data via their own prv, setting the Midi channel appropriately Result: all 5 notes would respond only to channel 1 data. As a last resort, I simply used 5 separate instruments and set up each note the way wanted. This worked as expected but seems awfully resource-wasteful and, to my mind at least, this sort of functionality should be fairly easy to set up. So, am I missing a trick here?

I'm not an expert at MIDI either, so there's likely an expert who can come up with a real solution. but you could set up the 5 tracks, set up your first controller data to the first track on the first note, bounce that to audio, then go to the next track and reset the controller data to the next settings, bounce to audio, etc.

I did read recently of a vst that allowed you to pitch bend a chord to whatever chord you wanted removing the limitations of all the notes moving up/down by the same amount of steps. However, im buggered if i can remember where i saw it, now its going to annoy me all day I will post the link if i do Bibs

The current midi spec does not allow for individual note bends within a chord. You are simply asking too much of it. Hence enter VST 3. This is the reason why VST 3 is so powerful and amazing. You will have full control over pitch bends and modulation of individual notes within a chord. But not too many virtual synths around around yet capable of even responding to it. (Steinberg does of course) The way you did it using 5 synths is the way to go and if you don't want to use all those resources the way Beagle is suggesting is a good work around.
