Archiving soft synths

Apologies if this has been discussed at length, I did a search and didn't find what I was looking for. I may have to format my comp soon and I need to back up all of my past and current projects. Luckily I don't use a ton of soft synths but I'm wondering about how to backup the ones I do use, namely Superior Drummer. As long as I reinstall the plugin in its entirety will I be okay? I think the piano roll information for the soft synths are stored in the project file, but what about edits to the soft synth for each project, like which drum heads/types of sticks I'm using? My friend told me I'd need to save a preset for each one... What's the best way to make sure my soft synths are backed-up properly? Thanks in advance.

Softsynth settings used in a project are saved within the Sonar project file.  But if you wish you can also save an individual softsynth's settings (e.g. program, kit, element or whatever) as a separate file, so that it can be loaded up again if needed.  Different softsysths have different options in this respect.
