I have dabbled in Ardour. the older versions i used had those ugly linux interfaces that shouldn't matter...yet do. However, that wasn't my biggest problem. my biggest issue was dealing with the royal headache called JACK. It looks like this version gives options so i am going to take another look at it.

Today I decided to use Jack to route Sonar to Mixbus 2.5 and can't seem to find it as an option. I opened Mixbus first, then Sonar. As I understand it Sonar should now show Jack as an option...but no.

Also...I use EZD2, AD2 and EZ Keys. Without midi, Ardour/Mixbus was only for when I was in the mood for that Mixbus sound and workflow. Recording and editing may be something to consider in the future.

Ardour 4 looks promising...VST's and MIDI...major step forward for this platform....

Ardour has had midi and virtual instruments for awhile. I know 3 certainly had them and possibly even 2.5. Mixbus chose not to adopt those features. hopefully they will be more open this time.

Are you using 64 bit sonar?? If so i doubt this option works since mixbus is 32 bit. My jack issues were when trying Ardour in Linux

That waves live track software is a reminder of some of the things i don't like about waves. They have a stripped down version of ardour they charge $99 for.

Well I have it. It looks good (pretty) and a few problems that bugged me in mixbus are fixed. You can move the meter in the master bus now. I use ARC2 so being able to put the meter before it is huge. So far so good...I haven't been able to insert EZD2 yet, so I haven't tried the midi, but I'm sure I'm doing something stupid! Time to download the manual. My VSTs scanned in just fine.

TracksLive is FREE...it's only $99 for the Premium Version that gets you MultiRack, which is normally $600...

I downloaded it, scanned my plugins, but couldn't get my MIDI to work... but I haven't really gotten "under the hood". It sure looks promising for Mixbus 3 though....

Let me know if you can't get it figured out. (you will it's pretty easy) I can help later. I use Mixbus seldom so I'm having to learn things again and again. I'm going to import some tracks later and mess around a bit.

I guess I should rephrase...my instruments work fine... My MIDI Keyboard won't operate them...I've turned it on in the MIDI preferences...but still get nothing...I'll dive in deeper later on...but I'll keep you posted if I can't get it fingered out...I mean figured out...

Okay, I've got a few miles on Ardour now and it seems pretty stable. I tried to change the audio settings and it crashed, but just make those changes in your interface to begin with, leave it alone and it seems to be stable. My 64bit plugins scanned in just fine and there are a lot of huge improvements. Harrison Mixbus 3 is going to be a big deal!

I gave them $1/month to try out Ardour 4 for Windows. And I gave them a one time $10 contribution to help with development. I figure when MB3 comes out my upgrade fee will augment what little I gave today.

Not seeing much about Mixbus 3 on the Harrison forums, makes me wonder how much longer it will be. Ardour 4 still in beta and then Harrison has to integrate and test, Could be a while yet...

Harrison has said that they have been behind the scenes working on, and helping to fund Ardour. I would bet they have a working beta right now. I haven't seen them post much in the last few weeks though.

Glad you got it working. I installed the 64bit version and so far after setting up my RME and importing an audio track and having a anopther audio track armed for recording I cannot get the transport to move using the mouse on Ardours transport controls. I took all the defaults on the install.

Glad you got that figured out. It takes some getting used to. I had a hard time understanding the input monitoring button. Black is off, outlined is on, fully colored is locked. Hopefully they will get some people to commit to Windows support, but Harrison will be able to take care of it once Mixbus 3 comes out. It's a very nice daw for $1 a month. I wish Sonar had the alt 6 for increase gain or alt 7 decrease gain feature. Splitting a clip and using that to change the wav form makes editing some peaks very easy. (this is in Mixbus 2.5) Sonar can turn gain up and down, but I like seeing that wav change. After working in Mixbus or Ardour for a while I do appreciate Sonar more though. Sonar just seems like it's in HD3D.

Clint, You've already dug further than I intended. I just wanted to get a flavor of the direction with the base product. Of course once MB3 is out I'll cancel my $1/mo donation. I imagine the only Win support will be Harrison. Just my opinion.

I actually hate Linux. I know it's because of my own ignorance, but I still can't seem to do a simple install of anything. I have two PC with Fedora 20 and I've tried to install Ardour 4...but it's beyond me. So they need Ardour 4 for Windows and Harrison Mixbus 3 coffee cups! Don't forget the 3X t-shirts! I like them to fit lose and I'm a big sexy beast!
