Are Sonar 5 projects recognised by Sonar 6?

Hi all,

I'm currently using Sonar 5 but I've been presented with the opportunity of buying a genuine Sonar 6 disk.  Will Sonar 6 recognise my Sonar 5 project files?  And if the disk has been registered, will I still be able to get the official updates?  The Sonar 6 disk is genuine but registered.  I could really do with a few more features and the disk is affordable too.

If someone should know for sure, please do let me know.

Peace and many many thanks to you fantastic forum members!

D from London

To the best of my knowledge, this would be against the licensing agreement.  I have plenty of disks lying around going back to Cakewalk 2 express.

Maybe this would be legal if the original owner lets you take over his Cakewalk registration account.  He can't just sell you the disk.

Thanks for replying.  I think he's handing over the registration too.  But back to my original questions re Sonar 5/6 compatibility, any ideas?

Will Sonar 6 recognise my Sonar 5 project files?
As far as I know, all Sonar versions are backwards-compatible (and forwards to some extent too).  In v7, I have opened files that were created in v6 and v8.

I think he's handing over the registration too.
I meant the actual account, not just the software registration details.  He would need to cease using it himself after passing it to you.

well the owner can't just sell on the disk to you, they don't allow license transfers.. you won't be able to get upgrades for a start .. or upgrades in the future.

since your in London like me, maybe there is a Digital Village shop near you (other shops are available).. and tbh you'd be better upgrading your v5.. to the latest version (x1 ).. assuming you have a fast enough pc .. but go to your local DV, you might find they do you a deal terry tibbs style..

here are 2 upgrade options for a start

    http://www.dv247.com/comp...roducer-upgrade--81776

    http://www.dv247.com/comp...sential-upgrade--81771

personally for the extra money of Producer , it's worth the cost for what you get.. or wait for the demo of it as some people on here don't like it (that's me being totally objective)

shop around, you might get it cheaper..
