>>Are There Take Lane Meters?

Hi Guys,
I've searched the Forum and Help and am still wondering if there are Meters available for each individual Take Lane.  This does not appear to be the case.  But it would be handy, for example, when using certain Kontact Instruments....for instance in a multi-instrument setup and one of the instruments (say, out of 5) is peaking the Track meter, and I want to find the culprit.
Any ideas?  Thanks much!

Cheers!

Tony

There are solo buttons for each take lane.  I imagine you will have to solo a lane and use the track meter.

Different issue, Alex.

As for the OP, different Kontakt instruments within a single instance of Kontakt would still go to individual audio tracks, not take lanes. So it's not an issue there. I can't think of a good reason why it would be relevant either, to be honest. It fits perhaps with the "layers" paradigm, which disappeared a few versions ago, but not with take lanes.

Below is a picture with one track and its take lane plus automation lanes Sonar Platinum.
Notice that the takes have no meter but also notice the automation lanes have small meters and indicators to say what each lane is. These are adjustable.  There is no meter in the take lane because the parent track is where all metering is done.

That's what I would recommend as well. Audio Tracks have more options that Take Lanes, which are intended more for comping and editing.

ModBod- What you said is exactly what I have to do.

Craig & Sanderxpander- I'm not sure if I understand your comment.  In a single instance of Kontact, I can have a Multi.... several ".nki's" in the Rack, each on its own MIDI channel.  For instance, when I'm using the  "Evolve Mutations" I might have "LPS Scoreface Menu 3.nki" and "LPS Scoreface Menu 5.nki" in the Rack on channels 1 and 2 respectively.  I play a part using each, and on playback I notice the bongos in one of them one of them are too loud, actually peaking the TRACK meter.....but which Instrument?  (Each one is producing a complex percussion part, so it can be hard to distinguish which one is playing what.)  I have to do what ModBod said to find the culprit.

I disagree with Sanderxpander... every "instrument" in my ONE instance of Kontact goes into the ONE instrument track...which may have numerous "takes".

Eventually the track gets frozen and resembles an Audio track instead of the original Instrument track.

OR...... maybe it takes me 9 "takes" to piece together (comp) my guitar solo in an Audio track. And on one of them there is an unintentional string noise that peaks the Track meter (a weird example, I know). Otherwise, it's a great take.  But which one (take) is it?

Am I missing something?  I could swear there were meters for each take several years ago... or was that in the old "Layers" technology?

Thanks guys.

Cheers!

You should use a multi-output instance of Kontakt. Each instrument within Kontakt will then end up on its own audiotrack. This gives you a meter, pan and level control, individual ProChannel and VST fx.

EDIT: as for your guitar example, you can see the waveform, plus only one take will be playing at a time. That's the point of comping.

You should use audio tracks not take lanes for Kontakt. If you are using a simple instrument track stop doing that and use separate audio and MIDI tracks. Kontakt is a multi out sample player that can output to many audio tracks.
